5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book on techniques of prediction
I became interested in reading this book after seeing an article in _The Mountain Astrologer_ on eclipses and the Saros Cycles, which designated "The Eagle and the Lark" as a primary source. This is an outstanding book, especially because it proposes a new interpretation tool using the Saros cycle to evaluate the effect of eclipses in predictive astrology. The other parts can be found in others publications, even if the methods presented here are clear exposed, in a didactic way.

However, I have never understood why prominent astrologers want to...

I became interested in reading this book after seeing an article in _The Mountain Astrologer_ on eclipses and the Saros Cycles, which designated "The Eagle and the Lark" as a primary source. (This book is a reissue of "the Eagle and the Lark".) Brady has outlined a simple yet effective means of delineating transits, progressions, and eclipses, not to mention time maps. Bravo on a book meant to enlighten and empower the astrologer! Definitely a must-have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Soar and Sing!, April 19, 2001
This review is from: Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark (Paperback)
The parable of the eagle and the lark is as beautiful as it is apt. Before you start to make assumptions about what is coming up for the chart you are interpreting, make sure you're standing on solid technical ground. As I work through this book I marvel at the generosity of spirit of the author. She shares the nuts and bolts of her analytical technique - a very astute one. You will learn how to interpret transits, progressions and solar returns, but you will also learn some important caveats. Never again will I look at a transit before determining the progressed lunar phase and house position! Arm yourself with a technique for ranking the relative importance of transiting aspects. Learn Ms. Brady's transit grid and timeline techniques. Read concrete examples drawn from the life of Joan of Arc. Before you begin to sing, do the preparation. Buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astrology for those who want something rock-steady, June 16, 2004

Bernadette Brady can be best described in this way: Understated Competance - so understated in fact that one might believe that this is some kind of cute storybook because that's what the title might suggest. I assure you, it is not. Bernadette's methods are very technical and the way she lays the information out, if studied diligently, will lead the student of astrology to excellence

I've found the best approach is to steadily progress through the book, make lots of index card notes of key concepts and study them as you would a college text because truly, this is a collegiate-level work. It must be studied and practiced rigorously rather than simply read. Yet for all that, the style is engaging and the author is warm, yet stern enough motivate the student through times of sloth. (speaking from experience)Moreover, it becomes clear very early on that she expects the student to be successful and rise to her own high standards. I feel that this is the mark of a master - to get the student to the same level.

The objective of the author is simply this: Develop the "eagle" or the foundational skills first. Do that and you'll fly far above the earth. Then, once aloft and resting upon solid technical ground, let the "lark" sing his song - the intuition - and breath the specificity and pertinence into your readings that can transform others.

To sum up, this is a master work by a master astrologer. It represents a lifelong committment, not only to astrology, but to the teaching of astrology. It has the level of detail and profoundness than only true passion can bring. Fortunately for the rest of us, Bernadette is willing to share that passion.

Brilliant insights and easy to apply the tools supplied.
One of my all time favorite books. I did not want
to skip a single chapter. Transits, Eclipses, Progressions.
Definately NOT a run of the mill cookie cutter astrology book!

Just as Marcia Masino's "Easy Tarot Guide" is THE BOOK to get if you
want to learn to read (or just learn about) the Tarot, this is THE BOOK to get if you want to learn how to do predictive astrology. Ms. Brady has put a wealth of information into this book. She very explicitly teaches you how to sort, time, prioritize and interpret progressions, transits and directions. She covers much more material in addition, but if you are overwhelmed with the dynamic aspects in a chart, she clarifies it all for you. She shows you how to set up "time maps" with her special grids, tie it all together, and get the timing right.
Again, just like Ms. Masino's Tarot book, if you get only ONE book on predictive astrology, make it this one. If you own several, get this one too !!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars essential for the serious astrologer, November 2, 2009

Not for the "what's your sign?" people, but for real astrology students, this is a book you'll really use. Bernadette Brady explains progressions and transits with examples from history and keeps it simple when there's a lot to understand. She is very concise about planets/houses/angles/points and her method of making mini-graphs of transits is a simple way of expressing a lot of info. To demonstrate how it all works, she offers you the particulars of Napoleon's chart and asks what would you have said to him if you were his astrologer in 1814 and he asked for advice?

3.0 out of 5 stars One star removed because of Joan d'Arc..., January 17, 2011

This is an outstanding book, especially because it proposes a new interpretation tool using the Saros cycle to evaluate the effect of eclipses in predictive astrology. The other parts can be found in others publications, even if the methods presented here are clear exposed, in a didactic way.

However, I have never understood why prominent astrologers want to illustrate their way of intepretation (when they do it, and very often they don't do it at all) and their findings with spurious charts. The case of Joan d'Arc is typical: how can we be sure of the day and time of Joan d'Arc's birth, who lived in the countryside and was most probably the daughter of a farmer? This should be considerated as a speculative chart.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent book, June 12, 2011

This review is from: Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark (Paperback)
It's a pleasure to pick up an astrology book that is 100% useable from the first to the last page. It is a book on how to combine forecasting techniques. There are transits, secondary progressions, return planets ( personal, outers), eclipses and saros cycles.
I find the transits grids very useful as well as the way of presenting the aspects, grading the transits. I also appreciate the chapter on Eclipses and the Saros Cycles with a detailed description in the appendix. Each chapter is important, well written, with a lot of useful details for delienations. I truly wished this book had not ended.
This is a book you'll really use!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top shelf!, May 9, 2011

This review is from: Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark (Paperback)
This is a fantastic book. Clearly written and remarkably insightful. Her section about the aspects was not long, only 7 and 1/2 pages, but it had the best description of the aspects that I've found! Far superior to even the book "Aspects in Astrology", which you would expect to be great on the subject. Brady not only gives insights into meanings in predictive work, but she also outlines great methods for practical application - sort of a "drag and drop" approach that is beneficial for helping students keep track of the pieces. Her section on the progressed lunation cycle was actually pretty good, but I disagreed with some of her wording between the full moon phase and the disceminating phase. I recommend Demetra George's book "Finding Our Way Through the Dark" to supplement that section. But, all in all, it's one of my favorite books and I definitely recommend it.
