The item came in a box within an outer box.

I tried it and got the replacement in 3-4 days but again even the replacement had wear & tear, was unclean & used.
Gulrez Khan
This is very good for idli, dosa and other Indian style batter preparation.

This is an extremely poorly finished product. I'm glad we bought this on Amazon so that we could send it back in a hassle free manner. The item came in a box within an outer box. When I opened the outer shipping box, I could see the inner box from the manufacturer in which the item was packed. I noted several things on that inner box. This item was supposed to come with a DVD. That description was unapologetically masked by a masking tape, probably by the seller. And when you open that inner box, the DVD is obviously missing. The maximum retail price (with taxes inclusive) that comes printed on the box was peeled off. I'm sure, that price was in Indian Rupees, because in India that's how prices are printed. No UPC code on the box either. It was Made in India. That's not the issue. In fact, we wanted an Indian Grinder that would help us in our Indian Kitchen. I'm not sure if this was meant to be sold in USA. I grew skeptical of the item once I noted these tell tale tampering signs on the box.

Now coming to the item itself, I was shell shocked at the extremely poor workmanship and materials that were used in the making of this product. The lids were so tight that you have to use full force to push them in or pull them out. You have to hold the jar tight in your elbow/armpit and pull out the lid with the other hand. The lids will pop out with a jerk. Imagine doing this when you have prepared some semi-solid/liquid recipe in that jar. You are sure going to mess up your clothes and the entire kitchen. Next, the finishing of the lids is so atrocious that there are irregular chunks of plastic at many corners and along the circumferences. The circumferences are so sharp almost their entire length that you are sure going to cut your skin if you wash them in a haste.

I've been using Preethi Blue Leaf for about 3 years now. I purchased it after burning out US blenders making idly and dosa batter. The motor saver on this mixie is the overload cutoff that is located on the bottom of the base. When the motor gets too hot, it shuts itself down instead of burning out and you can reset it and continue after a few seconds of cool down. The small jar is also great for masalas and chutneys. I've never used the juicer or watched the DVD. The one complaint I have never been able to use the small storage jars which have these impossible silicon washers on them correctly. It's a tough machine.

Pros:

- Does all the heavy grinding, blending (dosa, idli, masalas etc) that Indian cooking needs well enough
- The different size jars come in handy

Cons

- Some components such as the plastic lid seem a little less than sturdy

I ordered a new product but received a used one. The jar and the lids had visible scratch marks and it is clearly evident that it is an used one. One of the jars has also white powder on it, probably from the batter or dough prepared in it. The jar lids are also made of flimsy plastic and not very sturdy. The item was not packed properly and it just came without an outer box. Very unsatisfied with the purchase and I'm going to return it. In spite of the negative reviews which did tell about used items being shipped I did take a chance and received an used one. I am going to order a different mixer from the same seller and see if they are going to ship an used/refurbished item. When I pay the full price for a new product I expect a new product not an used or a refurbished one.

I bought this from India for about 5k rupees in 2010. I was finding it difficult and time consuming to make Idly / dosa batter with the mixers available here and the batter was never smooth enough. This was the only one with 110 volts that would suit usage in US. I was skeptical wheni looked at the blades - which were blunt to touch. Because of it's rpm and the power of the motor - it does a very good job and that is how the blades are meant to be.

The person who was servicing this grinder - gave me a few tips on caring for the mixer. He had told me to wash it promptly after use and let it dry such that the bottom of the mixer is not standing in water for a long time. I hand wash them except for the storage containers and not their caps. I remove the rubber gasket from the lids carefully and clean them every week to get rid of debris and to make sure it doesn't become hard and get stuck to the lid.The service person had warned me not to do that - since ther eis no spare rubber gasket available. But it has held well till day and i use my mixer every other day.

The smaller grinder is very handy to grind the masala and to make fine powder or paste. I use the bigger one mainly for ingredients with more liquid or for larger quantities. The liquid oozes out of small grinder if the quantity or liquid is large - which is expected. I wouldn't consider it a flaw - since it's meant only for smaller quantities and for dry ingredients.

I haven't had any problems till date. The only complaint is the noise. I myself find it noisy when i have to make the batter or chutney. I would recommend it to any person coming to US or even to those in India except for the 110volts.
