5.0 out of 5 stars Guessing Game
Hip Hop for me has always been a guessing game, trying to figure out what's good, what's not, what's worth buying and what's worth leaving alone. I'm just a white kid that hates listening to hip hop that doesn't have heart, soul or meaning.

It's been a long time since I've heard a hip hop CD that was this good. I heard "the Leak" and "Mowtown 25" one...

3.0 out of 5 stars preface good
The album is good and Black Milk did a good job producing it, Elzhi is very lyrical, witty with word play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guessing Game, August 22, 2008
This review is from: Preface (Audio CD)
Hip Hop for me has always been a guessing game, trying to figure out what's good, what's not, what's worth buying and what's worth leaving alone. I'm just a white kid that hates listening to hip hop that doesn't have heart, soul or meaning.

It's been a long time since I've heard a hip hop CD that was this good. I heard "the Leak" and "Mowtown 25" one night on a radio show here in Lexington, KY on a Saturday night (Black Fist!) and loved it. So I went out and bought the CD a few days ago and this is like when I first heard Talib Kweli or listened to Foreign Exchange for the first time. While Elzhi doesn't really compare to those artists, The Preface was just a breath of fresh air like those were.

The beats are all worth listening to, there wasn't one that didn't get my head bobbing. Elzhi has a great flow with some excellent lyrics. He may not be mind blowing or revolutionary with the words he speaks, but he easily surpasses most of the rappers out there today. I'd rank him up there when it comes to emcees today.

If you're sick of the radio and all that generic rap out there, this is a great CD to get. When I think of Hip hop, this record is an example of what I think of - a fresh, innovative and fun to listen to record full of great beats and flows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long story short- Check THE PREFACE!!!, August 11, 2008
By
This review is from: Preface (Audio CD)
When I tell you that this is an instant classic, I am surely not lying. This album is amazing! Beats (production mostly done by Black Milk) are amazing and all go perfectly with Elzhi's flow and if you already know Elzhi, you know about his amazing flow. Forget reading the rest of the reviews, just buy the album! If I could give you a money back guarantee for your purchase I would, I'm that confident you'll LOVE this album.

And if you're listening to Elzhi for the first time, and I had to pick a few songs for you to listen to off the album, I would say (this is so hard)....

Check out:
Colors- Amazing concept and beat
Save Ya- Soul sample beat and hot flow
Hands Up- You just gotta check this one out
Motown 25- Elzhi and Royce da 5'9", what more can I say

5.0 out of 5 stars nuff said......, October 9, 2008
This review is from: Preface (Audio CD)
....like everyone else already said, this is IT...the REAL, authentic hiphop!!! Elzhi is amazing....very orignal & unique, killer killer lyrics that constantly make u shake ur head & say "WOW". and to me, that is the definition of an MC. as if that werent enough, which to me it actually isnt, 99% of the production is done by the next legend...Black Milk. this is a NEAR flawless debut that will remind u of other near flawless debuts like "illmatic" & "liquid swords"....NOT because "the preface" sounds anything like them, but because its similar in how almost PERFECT it is, and that its a debut!!!
if u like insane LYRICS and killer chopped & woven samples w/ sick drums & bass sprinkled w/ heavenly soul samples, then you'll LOVE this...NUFF SAID!!!!
from a true hiphop fan, thank u Elzhi.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really 4.5 stars, January 6, 2009
This review is from: Preface (Audio CD)
this is a continued fresh effort from the old Fantastic Voyage days .... with dope song concepts executed to perfection. Detroit in my opinion has not gotten it's full recognition to it's artist contribution to Hip Hop .... some of the greatest music in this genre has been created there

The Preface is what you have been looking for if the radio stations are damaging your eardrums with wackness. Elzhi and guests are dope, beats are bangin, concepts are clear and concise. Instant classic for True Hip Hop heads, radio listeners need not apply!! You're Welcome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, December 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Preface (Audio CD)
I ordered this album on Monday, it came on Wednesday(Amazon Prime). Everything was clean when I got it, 5 stars on the costomer service. As for the album, it's great. Elzhi's one of the best rappers out right now and Black Milk is the best producer out. Best song is the Fire(remix). Album is worth the money, best album of 2008. Support good artists while they are still around. Can't wait for his next album The Feed.
