5.0 out of 5 stars Great Primer!
As an expecting father, I needed some guidance (beyond the obvious) about my wife's pregnancy and about fetal development. I got very bored with this book very quickly. Based on previous reviews I thought it was going to be outstanding but I'm not at all as impressed as everyone else... Information inside is typical and comprehensive but no different than "Mother of All..." or "What to Expect..."

1. The graphics and illustrations are superb.
2. The organization is very intuitive.
3. The information is explained in a coherent manner.
4. The authors are not condescending or patronizing at all.
5. The index is excellent when trying to find a specific topic.

I highly recommend this book to both fathers- and mothers-to-be.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Pregnancy Book, February 9, 2006

I have purchased many pregnancy books and this is my favorite of them all. The book is thorough and informative. I like the sections on what is healthy to eat and what to stay away from. I also like the exercise section that has pictures, not diagrams, of pregnant women doing the exercises.

My husband likes this book because it shows him pictures of what I am supposed to look like as well as what the developing embryo is supposed to look like each week. He is disinterested in all the other pregnancy books.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is pregnant or who is planning to become pregnant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Informative, July 14, 2005

I found this book to be very educational. Not only is it well put together, but the graphics are excellent.

One word of advice, however. My husband had a hard time with the book because of the graphic nature of some of the photos. The photos are not descrete, but none the less, done in a tasteful, educational manner. If you have a queasy stomach, some of the material may be too much. I still highly recommend this to you wimps out there simply for the terrific content. If you can't handle the pictures, go to the next page/chapter.

The book has both a week-by-week pull-out description for your changing body and a week-by-week description for the baby's development. Again, great photos and excerpts that will help you understand what is going on. There is even a chapter dedicated to fatherhood, which many books neglect to consider.

It doesn't stop there! There is even chapters on common and not so common newborn medical problems and a postpardum reference.

Get this book, you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pregnancy resource book!, April 19, 2007
By

This review is from: The Pregnancy Bible: Your Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Early Parenthood (Paperback)
It took us a little while to get pregnant. While we were trying I gathered a collection of pregnancy books -all the ones you hear about all the time. When we finally did get pregnant -I picked up all those other books and found that none of them were helpful. Many were biased, scary, difficult to read and not well organized.

So I went in search of a book that would be a resource for information, without telling me how to do things or scaring me. This is that book! I love it -it is so well organized, with references for the statements that are made and additional resources for more information.

It's easy to read and presents the information that I want - there is a separate section for complications, so I don't need to get freaked out unless I go looking.

I also loved the actual photographs - real photos of real women with all the symptoms and changes during pregnancy. That was so much better than a drawing. Some people may not like the actual full color photos, but I do.

So far it is the only book that I go back to when I need information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very calming read, October 26, 2003
This review is from: The Pregnancy Bible: Your Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Early Parenthood (Paperback)
This is my first pregnancy (33yrs.) and my first and ONLY book. I spent hours online reading the various reviews of the more popular older books and I had three that I thought I would review in the store before purchasing. Yes, the others were there, and I spent about 3mins. browsing however this book was the last on my lap, the newest of the rest and it is the one I left with. Clear, concise and calming, even dad-to-be thinks so. Extremely informative, and VERY to update, covering all the important topics from -0 to after 9mths. I was particularly interested in the exercise and the nutrition section. It did not down play labour or the pros/cons of the pain relief. I feel along with the information online, this book, is all I really need but then that just me!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you need in one book!, October 24, 2005

This is an excellent reference book to use during pregnancy. I am pregnant for the first time and I use this book very regularly. It covers each week of pregnancy, follows the weekly development of the baby and provides practical information about anything I have needed to find out about during my pregnancy. While there are other good pregnancy books in the market and many provide similar information, the format of The Pregnancy Bible sets it apart. The pictures are worth much more than the legnthy descriptions provided in other books. Tables and fold-in pages are used to provide important information making it much easier to find what you are looking for. If you are pregnant - get this book! I am using two others (by Ann Douglas) but refer to this one far more than any other.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pregnancy Guide, January 6, 2005

This is the most helpful, fun and interesting guide I own! Whether it's your first pregnancy or your third, it's chalk full of great information and amazing photos. I found it reassuring and interesting and my husband loved reading it as well. It's great as a refresher also. If you've had a child or several, this book can help you with all the little things that you may have forgotten or can't quite remember. All of my friends loved to look at this book whenever they would visit and see what was happening inside me....and them! It's a great gift for a friend that is expecting. I own several other pregnancy books, but this was the most informative, especially visually. It became my first reference point and guided me through the changes and helped me become more informed and prepared. I didn't buy into all that the book said, but it covers everything if you're interested.

I highly recommend this for yourself or as a gift. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST BUY OUT THERE!!!, September 22, 2004

I have purchased the famous " What to expect..." but found it terrible and too preachy. Then I came across this book, and just by looking at the first pages you have an idea how good the book is.
You need no other book after this one! So complete, with color pictures, easy to read, relaxing aproch to pregnancy!

I love every bit, I'd recomend 100%, better than the "famous" one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent information, February 1, 2008

What initially attracted me to this book was that it has colour photos, not diagrams. Seriously, we are all adults and know how babies are made and can cope with photos which are much more informative than diagrams! This is consistent with the book's informative, factual content, nothing soppy or humerous.
I wanted to write a review with the book in front of me so I could outline it's topics but it has been 6mths and I haven't gotten around to it yet so I'm reviewing now from memory.

Firstly a small thing: I do not like the title. I think it makes the book sound flippant, less good than it really is. It has no need to talk itself up using 'bible' in the title because it is a really good book.

I found that this is a good reference book but you do need to look elsewhere for more detailed info. For example when I caught a cold I wanted to check the ingredients in cold medications to see what, if anything, I could take. This book did not have any info but The Mother of All Pregnancy Books has a list. (I do not refer to that book as much as this one). I looked up a list of high mercury fish online.

The two parts of this book I refer to every week, describe:
(1) (with photos) the baby's week by week development ie skeleton, lungs, brain, hearing etc. There is a paragraph of info per week and the approx length and weight are listed. It is very informative and straightforward.
(2) A timeline, in weeks, of changes to my body. This is really only a few words per week mentioning darkening nipples, digestion slowing or feeling warmer than usual. It is brief but tells you some things you may or may not experience around this time.
A nice touch to this part are that there are several side-on photos of a naked woman so you see her belly growing as the timeline progresses. Later in the labor section she is pictured with her newborn which is nice.

There is a section on labor & delivery and a section on caring for your newborn but I have not read them yet.

Also covered are the biology of the conception process, healthy eating and foods to avoid, exercising, travel, keeping up appearances, taking care of yourself. Sorry, without it in front of me I don't remember as I do not refer to these sections (except the food and exercise sections when I am trying to motivate myself to do the right thing!). There is a chapter for Dads but my hubby has his own book (The Expectant Father) which is excellent.

I highly recommend this book as a no-nonsense, easy to read reference book. The info is straight forward, non-judgemental and the author is not trying to be your friend or make jokes. It is pleasing to read.

As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I went to the library and checked out every book, then came on here and ordered them. This is far and away the best. It coveres everything, has REAL pictures (not just pencil drawings)- both my husband and I LOVE it.
