The O'Briens - Book #1
Mallory O'Brien is thirty and she's has fertility challenges that make her super sensitive to her ticking biological clock. She's a busy family law attorney and has had disastrous marriage and then a brief relationship after, that leads her to believe that she doesn't really need a man in her life, but she so very much wants a baby. All Mallory needs is a father and her roommate and best friend Whit Manning is the only man she trusts for the role. Whit's known Mallory all his life; having grown up as neighbours and he, her brother's best friend. He's thrown for a loop when Mallory proposes sex-for-a-baby, but he can see how important it is to her and he can't let her down. But Whit wants more than what Mallory is proposing and he sets out to charm and romance her.
The central conflict is really Mallory's ticking clock and challenges to getting pregnant. Both Whit and Mallory are already in love with each other, they just haven't recognized it yet or are ready to make the commitments. So there aren't any big black moments in this story, but there are some truly hilarious moments as Whit slowly starts to chip away at the walls Mallory has set up to protect herself. This is a truly fun and light read. It's the first of the O'Brien clan, and a wonderful introduction to Mallory's family. The style of this book is reminiscent of the now retired Temptations; that I miss so very much. I'm looking forward to reading about the next O'Brien sibling. :D
