Simply spectacular in every way,
By Gromit (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pregnesia (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
A friend (who is a faithful reader of romance novels, but is fully capable of ironic and camp readings of texts) recommended this book to me. She had not read it. "But," she reasoned, "how can a book called Pregnesia be anything less than awesome?" I bought the book.
Pregnesia is either a heartbreaking work of staggering genius, or the single worst piece of writing I've ever read (I am a graduate teaching assistant and college writing tutor, so I essentially read bad writing for a living). I'm leaning towards the former: there is a certain level of brilliance achieved through inanity. Pregnesia is to romance novels what Showgirls is to the backstage musical film. It contains insane plot twists, a total lack of character development or motivation, a lot of driving in circles, terrible dialogue, shopping trips to Wal-Mart, and a local eatery called Cafe Italian (because "cafe" isn't a French word at all). I read this book in an hour. I was laughing for approximately 45 minutes of that hour. There is no actual romance in this book. But I did read the whole thing, and I could only make it through five pages of the Twilight series. So there's that.

This book is so stupid a kind of grandeur creeps into it. Really, it's like the stupidest thing I've ever read and it's so good for it.
