From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 3 Oh, joy! Here is Kellogg's fourth picture book about the obstreperous but well-meaning Great Dane puppy, Pinkerton. This time, Pinkerton is teething, and it seems as if no object in the house, from pencils to piano legs, is safe from his persistent gnawing. In an effort to save the homestead, his young mistress takes him along on her class visit to the natural history museum. There things go from bad to gloriously worse as Pinkerton starts chewing away on the dinosaur skeleton display. This is possibly the most chaotic and funniest class visit since Trina Hakes Noble's The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash (Dial, 1980), also illustrated by Kellogg. The text here is fairly simple and serves as the straight man for the outlandish humor of the full-color wash-and-ink illustrations. Each panel is crowded with funny, off-the-wall details. All this plus the current dinosauromania should ensure that this book will be as big a hit with preschool and primary readers as are the other books in the series. This review is from: Prehistoric Pinkerton (Hardcover)
Pinkerton is losing his baby teeth! Everything in the house is getting chewed to pieces and you will never believe what happens when Pinkerton tags along on a school field trip to the museum!

The Pinkerton books have always been among our favorites and "Prehistoric Pinkerton" is no exception. The illustrations are wonderful and the story is magnificient!

5.0 out of 5 stars for grown-ups with great danes, January 21, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having read the "Pinkerton" series to my kids when they were little I couldn't resist buying some of them for my daughter in her mid-twenties who now has a Great Dane that is also a harlequin. I remembered fondly the books from twenty years ago so I would highly recommend them to parents today to read to their kids. By the way, reading to your kids makes a tremendous difference in their verbal skills and comprehension plus gives them a desire to read for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars always pinkerton, December 1, 2009

My daughter has a thing for animals and I remember reading these when I was younger and falling in love with Pinkerton. It's fun for me to revisit this large dog and my memories of it with my children. For anyone who has ever had a dog - or kids, you should find Pinkerton books quite worth the read. Tallyho Pinkerton is her current favorite. I'm working on owning every Kellogg book out there.
