Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Over time, more and more gay and lesbian couples are making commitments to each other and, in some states, getting married.  As this trend (which is becoming a recognized right) continues, there is a need for premarital counseling.  I've written a short handbook which can be used as a launchpad for discussion between couples or as a guide for therapists to follow in their sessions.

From the Inside Flap

"This book is an easy read with high-quality information for same-sex couples considering long-term commitment. This is a much needed reference for couples and for counselors who work with them. I plan on using it in my own practice with all couples working toward marriage."  --Susan M. Dillinger, M.S., LPC-Intern, NCC

"This guidebook is valuable for all couples, gay and straight, considering marriage or not, as it provides a simple, powerful tool for couples who are ready to take that next step in their relationship." --Rev. Richard J. Colonna

5.0 out of 5 stars Advice for ALL Relationships March 15, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book may have the words 'premarital' in the title, but after reading it - I couldn't help but think about my own 12 year relationship. Counselor Pamela Milam gives great advice and couches it in a way that is 'user-friendly' and not a book of 'therapy terms'. She utilizes great composite studies of different scenarios so that many people can identify and possibly find themselves in the pages. I would recommend this book for any LGBT couple starting down the road of marriage or for those looking to work on existing relationships as well. A compact, useful, thought-provoking tool to ignite a dialogue among couples.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent LGBT Primer on Premarital Counseling March 12, 2012
Format:Paperback
I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this book, and found much great information within. Counselor Pamela Milam walks you through numerous scenarios LGBT individuals may face as they come together as a couple. Drawing on her years of experience counseling both individuals and couples, Milam supplements her advice with actual case studies, gleaned from her patients, and reading about their experiences might help you determine how you'll handle similar situations, if faced with them. While specifically geared towards those considering marriage, I found myself thinking about how I could apply much of the advice to my relationship of 9 years.

Practical, thoughtful, and chock-full of advice and elements to consider, this book is a must-read for any LGBT person thinking of tying the knot.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for engaged gay couple October 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is an excellent resource. It gave my fiance and I some things to consider. Too often, a couple will make assumptions instead of discussing things that may impact their marriage. This book helps give insight on those issues so that couples can build a strong, healthy, lifelong marriage. --Enrique
