Go for it !!!, June 17, 2005
This review is from: Premiere Elements for Windows (Paperback)
The visual quickstart guides from Peachpitt are by the best books to learn software programs;they are lowwcost well structured visually teaching tools.
Antony Bolante is since years one of the best"gurus" to teach you Adobe's NLE programs. If you are a videoshooter from vacation to wedding films and even a bit more and you hesitated to edit all the stuff because all the proposed software tools are too difficult then this book is for you.
Premiere elements is a piece of cake, so buy the software(I recommend the bundle with photoshop elements 3;great deal!!)
The first chapter leads you in 19 pages trough the basics of elements(using the taskbar, workspaces, the interface, context menus, tabbed palettes, keyboard shortcuts, correcting mistakes and the history palette)then you can start with a project and in 38 pages you learn it all(starting, saving, opening and specifying project settings).
From chapter 3 to 11 you learn in the next 337 pages capturing and adding footage, managing clips, editing clips in a sequence, editing in the timeline, adding transiions, previewing a sequence, creating titles, adding effects and exporting your film.
Every page gives you visually real world examples and tips to improve your skills.Do you have a lot of stills(photos) you want to add to your edits or graphics in another program(eg elements or illustrator)Bolante explains you the right way to adding other media.
Believe me this is the best book for beginners to advanced people to learn from.Premiere elements hasn't the overkill features from Premiere pro and you don't need all this features if you are a casual family or schooleditor!I own he Pro software but I prefer to work with the easy editing techniques from elements from capturing till dv editing in the same program!!
The software and this well explained book THATS ALL FOLKS !
Your family and friends will never believe the amazing films you'll present them are produced and edited by an amateur.
Good job Bolante !

Too Basic, July 24, 2005
This review is from: Premiere Elements for Windows (Paperback)
Not a bad book, but way to basic for me. I had just purchased Premiere Elements, and had been playing around with it after reading the book and viewing the DVD that came with the program. This Visual QuickStart Guide did not add much to help me use the program better. I find that "Adobe Premiere Elements for Dummies" has a lot more to offer.
