World music before world music became vogue,
By Steven Clem Haley "Steve is in Stillwater" (Stillwater, Oklahoma United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Premiere: Music From Brittany (Audio CD)
I bought this cd after hearing the song 'Jesuitmont' on a Green Linnet compilation cd. I had no idea what kind of experience I was in for. I did my undergraduate work in history. My wife has her doctorate in Music Education. The liner notes on this cd brought us to understand a group of musicians that appreciate their heritage and that pays homage to the culture that produces this delightful set of tunes. This cd is a travel in time of early renaissance dance tunes and folk tunes. This cd is incredibly simple to listen to. This cd, at the same time, challenges the listener. The musicianship makes some very difficult music to play sound simple-quite a feat. We are hearing these guys on a reunion tour in October. We can't wait.

An important Breton folk band caught live in America,
By A Customer
This review is from: Premiere: Music From Brittany (Audio CD)
Kornog combined the talents of flautist Jean Michel Veillon, Soig Siberil on guitar, fiddler Christian Lemaitre and Jamie McMenemy on vocals bouzouki and mandolin four individual stylists in one powerful group. Ahead of their time they took the traditional Breton folk dances used in Fest Noz's including Andros,Dans Plins, Gavottes and arranged them for fiddle/flute/bouzouki/guitar and placed them in a listening context. Kornog created a new type of Breton music. They concentrated on the melodic nature of the tunes where the ears benefited as well as the feet. "Premeiere" caught Kornog on their first US tour in 1983 and captures the life, energy, taste, subtlety and inventiveness of their live show. This is the sound that opened American ears to the delights of Breton folk music."Premiere" has an important Breton folk band caught live in America.
