'Les Premieres Polyphonies Francaises XI Siecle' by Ensemble Gilles Binchois is one of the finest recordings of early music I have heard. I am not an expert in early music, but the reviewer in 'Grammaphone' gave this recording excellent marks on its technical aspects.
All I an say is that it is very good listening and especially valuable as it includes sections with single voices, men voices in choir, and womens voices in choir, with both plainsong and polyphony. And, the selections include most different parts of the Catholic mass. I am delighted that this group lead by Dominique Vellard has many other recordings, as I am certain to try out some more of their material.

Les Premieres Polyphonies Français is an excellent recording of some very early music. I listen to this recording often. The ensemble sings this music very well.
For those who are bored with Gregorian Chant and want to know what developed after it, this disc is a must. Good sound, good acoustical recording environment and just enough feeling of space in this recording. A real winner. Highly recommended by yours truly.

I am in no way qualified to review ancient liturgical music. This is strictly my uneducated opinion. I have listened to many talented choral ensembles over the years both live and recorded. Chanticleer & the Tallis Scholars are two of my favorites. I would rank this recording at the very top of my listening pleasure list. The harmony in Polyphony is a given, however, voice, composition, direction, and production all contribute to the final enjoyment factor. This one is a masterpiece of the genre in my opinion.
