vanishing america,

I just heard Joshua Kadison's new album, "Vanishing America". It's simple, really: GO BUY IT! It's great song wirting and it's a great -- classic -- Kadison. The mixing is done by the person who did "Painted Dessert". All new songs and he knocks them all out of the park. The graphics/packaging is also very good. "Carolina's Eyes" is the first single to be released, but others that are as good or better includes "Begging for Grace", "I Believe In You" (like "Beautiful In My Eyes"), "Grayhound Bound" and "My Father's Son". This is going to be a great album: this issue is going to be if they release it in the US. The record companies are not all that reliable in getting us the best music available. It's there, folks -- it's up to you to go get it/demand it!! You'll be glad you did.

I have been looking for some new stuff by Mr. Kadison for quite some time now. This goes a little way towards slaking my thirst but it is well worth the purchase if you missed out on Joshua's great blues driven album, Deliliah Blue. I really missed Joshua after he disappeared after Deliliah Blue kinda sent him down the river (unjustly). I am glad to see this and I highly recommend this to new and old fans a like.

two great albums, for the price of one,

I bought PDS when it came out many years ago, and then kind of forgot about Joshua, I wasn't even aware when Delilah Blue was released, so when I heard about Vanishing America, it got me looking for what he'd done in the interim. I was shocked when I heard DB did so badly that it was deleted, so when I heard about this collection I ordered it immediately. The first half is PDS, the second DB, with I think two new songs. Now, the two halves are too different to compare, which is probably why DB did so badly. I think its great. Rather than put out another Jessie, or Beautiful..., he put out totally different songs. I would definitely recommend this album, and buy Vanishing America too.

Joshua's talent enormous,

The gold album IS both the painted desert serenade album AND Delilah blue (Along with a few new cuts) so this is a great CD to have if you missed the now deleted Delilah blue cd. Joshua has a new cd coming out called "Vanishing America" which at press time will only be avilable in Germany from June 01... I have heard a lead track called "Carolina's eyes" that is vintage Kadison in both melody and reality based songwriting.

I really enjoy listening to Joshua Kadison's music, as there is a strong message in these songs. The PGC is a collection of all of his classic songs all on one CD.

When I'm in a bad mood, I put on Joshua Kadison. I can't help it, his music and lyrics just make me feel GOOD. Mr. Kadison seems to be constantly reinventing himself. PDS was a very "pop" collection, where as DB was extremely "gospel" and "jazz" sounding. I absolutely love THIS CD. It has the best of both of the previous releases, and a couple of new tracks. If you enjoy songs that tell a story, then you will certainly enjoy this collection.

i'm going to review this as i listen through for the first time, so here we go...
ok, i'm about two thirds way through the album now and have yet o find anything to write about, although i'm not sure if this is because it's so good that it takes my words from me and casts them away like useless toys, or because its so unremarkable that i haven't been able to write about it. onward anyway, play... ok so now the albums played through, i'mn still not sure. i mean it sounds as if it might be genius, some swanseaic masterpiece lurking under the sounds of a hillbilly elevator album, yet i can't shake the feeling that this doesn't mean much at all, as if he's sat down and thought, i can write music, and guess what i own a guitar, so hey i must be bob dylan or something... arggh, i've just pressed play again, and it is annoying the hell out of me. i cannot understand why this is, it was perfectly unoffensive last time, i mean, i couldn't even think of anything to say about it, but now everytime he brushes his fingers over his guitar string, it feels as if he's diggin' a skrewdriver into my spine, or running a cheese grater up and down my shin. his voice is that of a preteen whizzing on too much pop, this instrumentation is frankly amaturish and the arrangement would sound better, and more interesting if it was done by grade school kids... ok, after one last listen through, my fourth in total, i think that maybe, as someone great once said, if you like this sort of thing, then this is the sort of thing you'll like. and that the point of it, really, it's as comercial as anything i've heard pumped out by those idiot tv shows and hidden behind a soft focus cover photo of a long haired fool, who's just producing this, with little or no artistic intent, to make money. |
