Man, this album blew me away,
This review is from: Premium (Audio CD)
An amazing mix of styles and influences makes this amongst my top ten of '99 (in case you're wondering the others would include Gomez, The Chemical Brothers and the groundbreaking cd from Sasha). Definitely worth a look into from anyone who lives to discover a cool new band.

A Delicious Rootsy Pop-Rock Nugget,
By A Customer
This review is from: Premium (Audio CD)
"Premium" presents solid songriting with an ear for melody, sophisticated harmonies and a strong lyrical conscience. Smarter than your average bear. These guys have obviously listened to The Beatles, Neil Young, and The Band. The production quality is top flight. A very fun listen, "Premium" made me want to see Hummer live.

Hummer, Premium - Get Back to Your Roots,
By A Customer
This review is from: Premium (Audio CD)
The first time I heard Stephe Mayone play the guitar was in a crummy little dive in downtown Minneapolis, the 410. As a music professional of over a decade I could not believe my ears. The man plays with a sensativity and an innate melodic genius which hasn't been heard off the big stage in decades. With his honest musical style and endearing vocals Mayone has the charm and the mojo to blow the socks right off your feet. Backed by a solid band (2 guitars, bass, drums, b.u. Vox), Hummer's flexible sound shines through on tracks like Judy's Street, a catchy tune which is deceptively simple. Jack, a story about a ragged but lovable artist from Minneapolis, captures the essence of tortured genius while manageing to rock your ears off with a heavy grungy vibe. Sweetly, penned in memory of Cobain, esatblishes Hummer as a band with the ability to jam. Most impressive though, is Worried Mind, a moving plaintive ballad which is an example of Mayone's songwriting genius and is a song that is ultimately universal. On the cutting edge in the post-post-grunge era, Hummer promises to be the leader of a new movement of roots-based next generation rock and roll remineiscent of and easily compared with Lennon/McCartney/Harrison, Jimi, and Garcia/Hunter. If you are looking for the next CD to enter your standard rotation, this is the one. Coming to a stage near you...
