5.0 out of 5 stars The Heart and Soul of Creedence Lives!
If you are a CCR fan, (I have been since high school), you will love this DVD. The sound is superb, the band is fabulous, and Mr. Fogerty is in top form. He looks great and his playing has never been better. I really liked the set too, nice touch. Good selection of tunes, I wished for more old CCR, though! Now about this overdubbing business. 3.0 out of 5 stars Too much camera moves and over-editing
Great performance by an immense artist, with skilled musicians (better than the original CCR). BUT this DVD show from 1998 is marred by too much camera moves and over-editing: each shot lasts no more than 6 seconds. The cameras on cranes are moving all the time and it does not take much time to get dizzy. One cannot follow the chords on the guitar or concentrate on...

I am a musician and I've played almost every one of these songs for over 20 years, I can play them in my sleep. Yes, I immediately noticed some spots where what John was playing or singing did not match the video. But they were very few and far between. It didn't "ruin it" for me. They taped two shows and got the best takes from both shows and mixed them together. Other people do this also. I noticed the same thing with Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature" DVD (still a great DVD as well). You can't fault them for wanting to put out a product with no flaws. You think any band is going to film ONE SHOW, mistakes and all, and release it on DVD? Come on. Heck, John even says at the first of the show, "if you hear any mistakes act like it's the greatest thing you ever heard and I'll just do like all these other wise guys and go back in the studio and fix it". At least he's honest! I thought they did a pretty darn good editing job overall. If you can't sit back and enjoy this show for what it is, a killer concert by one of rock & roll's all time greats, then I feel sorry for you brother. I hope I can still rock like that when I'm 53 years old!

5.0 out of 5 stars American Rock & Roll Doesn't Get Any Better, March 14, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Premonition (DVD)
If you like rock & roll -- the real thing, timeless, crisp, clear, concise, melodic, foot-stomping rock & roll -- this DVD is an essential part of your collection. Fogerty describes the Fairfield Four as a national treasure, but the phrase applies equally well to himself. More cool rock & roll sound emanates from this one guy than anybody else on the planet, including Elvis, the Boss, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, you name it. The composite concert on this disc captures Fogerty on fire, doing all your favorite CCR tunes plus some equally inspired new songs. I don't know what to make of these reviews talking about lip-synching; if you've ever seen Fogerty live, you know there's no rock performer who needs artificial sweetening less. I suspect any synch problem might be in the DVD medium itself; I have seen out-of-synch segments on various discs from time to time, and I understand you're supposed to hit pause on the PS2 to resynch audio and video. That said, I have both VHS and DVD versions of Premonition, and the DVD has it all over the VHS for both picture and sound quality. Again, this concert captures one of the all-time great American rockers at the top of his game, and I recommend it highly. Made loud to be played loud!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An enchanting concert by a true legend of rock and roll., February 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Premonition [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This concert features John Fogerty performing many of his old CCR hits along with some of his solo work and new material. I watched this concert in the DVD format with Dolby Digital 5.1; the sound mix is awesome! John is clearly the focus of this concert, but it's hard not to notice his new drummer. This guy is not only a fantastic musician but is a blast to watch. Watch this video, if you're not already a John Fogerty fan, you will be!

4.0 out of 5 stars There's A Bathroom On The Right, March 10, 2004

This review is from: Premonition (DVD)
First off, I wanted to help those of you claiming that this DVD is NOT in 5.1 surround. I thought the same thing at first because when you click play on the DVD player it automatically defaults to normal Dolby 2.0 sound. To get to the 5.1 soundtrack you need to go to the main menu (after the concert starts playing) and from there you can choose your sound settings. Hope this helps.
As for the concert itself, I thoroughly enjoyed it. One nice feature of the DVD is that, unlike most music DVDs out there, you can actually turn on closed captioning to display the lyrics to the songs, which converts the disk into a fun Karaoke kind of experience!
The songs are fun, and entertaining. John seems to be enjoying himself throughout the whole show. Here's something to watch for if you haven't noticed it yet: Look closely at John as he nears the end of Bad Moon Rising. You can actually see him mouth the words "There's A BATHROOM on the right" at one point in the song. There's a smile on his face immediately after that.
If I had to pick one favorite song from the disk, it would be Centerfield, as John rocks playing a guitar shaped like a baseball bat!
All in all, a very enjoyable DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Set List, November 27, 2004

This review is from: Premonition (DVD)
John Foggerty who made a name for himself with his brother back int he 60's/70's "Creedence Clearwater Revival" had finnaly gotten his copyright back to own the songs he wrote with CCR and has perfromed them well on this show.

Some people have complained about the sound quality and faults, and even over dubbing... I dont know if I heard that on my disc or not? I do have the Regoin 4 version, but if its the same as R1 then I dont know what there on about? Maybe thats been corrected?

I owned the Video of this show when it came out, and the CD... and i'm glad to see that this show has had the cut songs put back into the show, espeicaly "Walking In A Hurricaine" and now the show is bigger and better with the full show on DVD.

There is not bonus features unfortuanlty, it would be nice to have some, but the show itself is great if you like John or his kind of music. But dont expect any pryo or props, thats not the kind of rock band they are. Just enjoy the music performed clearly, nicely, and well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfection, June 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Premonition (DVD)
For those of you who don't know who John Fogerty is, you need to watch and listen to this DVD. The sound is perfect and the voice is well...John Fogerty. This is what rock and roll is supposed to be. Kids today need to see what a real musician with his own sound is all about. For all the sound alike groups with their manufactured sounds, throw them in the trash and educate yourself with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended., May 30, 1999

This review is from: Premonition (DVD)
For the first few seconds I thought this may not be for me, as the creative sound stage looked like something out of Disney. Then the music began and I was totally immersed. Everything was spot on, the song selection, the musicans (watch that drummer), the video, the audio, and oh yes, the ambience of the soundstage (crickets shirping and all) suited the concert very well. This is one to buy even if you have only the slightest interest in CCR, I think it will win you over. Turn up the sound full, especially when Susie Q fades to the intro to I'll Put a Spell on You, the room shook and the drums sounded as though they were in the room. This is what DVD 5.1 is all about. Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent concert, November 21, 2004
This review is from: Premonition (DVD)
someone said they perceived a lot of synching and abundant studio overdubs. This is not true. I saw John live at the Beacon theater in NY almost 7 years after this concert was filmed and the live show like this dvd performance is practically flawless. His CCR hits live, sound very true to their original studio tracks, something many big name bands fail to attain live, including recent famous ones like the Rolling Stones.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best entertainment from one of rock's best, December 4, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Premonition (DVD)
I never had the chance to see Creedence Clearwater Revival live, having been born after they split-up, so I was very happy to at least have their frontman captured on DVD. Neither the performance nor the DVD disappointed me (except for the cardboard case, because I hate those, and think they should be banned from production). This is a must for John Fogerty and Creedence fans; Mr. Fogerty gives the performance of his life on a great line-up of songs spanning his whole career, and shows that he can still rock at 50+. I'm not sure what more can be said, except, it plays great, it looks great, buy it!

Loved it, loved it, loved it! If you're a John Fogerty/CCR fan, you can't go wrong with this excellent DVD performance. If you're particularly blessed with a large screen TV and accompanying surround-sound speaker system, crank up the sound and let 'er rip! You are "live" at a concert that will knock your socks off! Particularly enjoyed ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD. I went to bed with it in my mind, woke up with it still in my mind. Enjoy.
