So I haven't used this yet, but I've played it through a bit while doing other things because, similar to the pilates dvd I purchased, you actually need some extra equipment (or substitutes to complete the exercises. So for those looking to purchase you also need yoga blocks, she uses a blanket to sit on so something you can sit on to bring your pelvis above your knees while cross legged, a strap to help with stretches (around your foot), and a round yoga pillow.
I am going to try to find substitutes for these things as much as possible simply because I don't want to spend extra money while saving for baby. Otherwise it seems like a good dvd, the instructor is nice to listen to and the pace is very soothing. Also wish they had a shorter option for a workout as I frequently don't have a whole hour alone with the tv.
I will update again as I use the dvd more frequently.

Yoga was an essential part of my maternity workout routine. I attribute the fact that I've lost my baby weight already at 12 weeks postpartum to yoga and swimming throughout my pregnancy (I still need to tone everything up!). Besides helping with weight gain, yoga helped to loosed up my sore muscles and joints and unwind at the end of the day. I am a very firm believer in prenatal yoga practice.

Julie Schoen's DVD was very relaxing and perfect for mommies to be. I really liked that it was divided into trimesters since I was definitely NOT able to do the same poses in my third trimester as my first! I found it to be very refreshing and a good mix of easy and difficult poses. I liked that there was a challenge so it felt like a workout and not just light stretching.

I got this DVD for my cousin, who is five months pregnant. She has been going through all of the good (and the bad) that comes with pregnancy, and needed to find a way to get back to the way she used to feel.

What she really liked was the feeling of connectedness with her baby she experienced while going through the yoga routine. The instructor was soothing and kind, and more than anything else, it helped her to become more centered and relaxed (which is exactly what she needed).

As someone who received this promotionally for review, I'm happy that it worked out so well and that she enjoyed the DVD!

Prior to pregnancy I was an avid yoga and Pilates "student". I was placed on "pelvic bed rest" for my first trimester, meaning no intimacy, no exercise, and as much bed rest as possible. Now in my second trimester, I'm looking for something to make me feel less like a blob. I am used to a more structured exercise.

What I am used to: Each workout will have, say, 2-3 sequences. In each sequence, each pose/move within the sequence is (one-by-one) presented, explained, and then practiced a few times so you can get the hang of it. This is done for each move in a sequence. Meanwhile, the instructor narrates which move you are doing AND about to transition to (which eliminates the need to look at the TV every 15 seconds). After all the moves in the sequence are practiced, we start from the very beginning and finalize THAT sequence by starting from move 1 of the workout. Then after the 2-3 sequences are done, we finalize the whole workout by start at sequence 1, move 1 all the way until the sequence 2 or 3.

What this DVD does: moves right into the move/pose, instructor says what it is AFTER she's moved into that pose and continues with the exercise. That doesn't work for me. I am 5 months pregnant and cannot move as quickly as I used to so I am forced to look at the TV to see what the heck she is doing. Not to mention, there is extra equipment that is not specified on the product description (I just noticed someone else said the same thing).

I'm sure this may be suitable for someone else, but I need something that does more than basic stretches and has better instruction.

The yoga poses are ones that can benefit anyone with variations offered that make poses easier, safer, and more comfortable for women in all trimesters of pregnancy. They are not all easy poses either - Some are challenging and provide a real workout. There is also some meditation involved that connects mommy to baby.

Julie's voice is very calming and the video is just her in a zen-like room, so there are no distractions. She does use pillows/blankets, a chair, and some accessories like a strap and yoga blocks for a few poses, but she gives alternatives like using a dog leash for the strap and books for the blocks.

This is a simple but effective yoga DVD that I would recommend to anyone pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

I received this product in exchange for an honest review.
