"Outstanding Sound", March 24, 2005
This review is from: Prends Courage (Audio CD)
This is the second CD that I purchaced by the Magnolia Sisters and it also is outstanding. The blending female voice harmony is a true delight to relax and listen to after a hard day's work. The back up instrumaments also great. This music is as trus to it's Cajun Roots as Boudin (with heavy Pork & rice)! This is a must for all Zydico and Cajun music fans. "ENJOY"

It's great to see female Cajun musicians getting the recognition they so rightly deserve. The background information and translations are a greatly appreciated extra.

Authentic Cajun?, June 21, 2007
This review is from: Prends Courage (Audio CD)
I learned to love Cajun music via a local radio show that played various ethnic music; that greatly expanded my musical knowledge. Being public radio, they were playing the 78's. Prends Courage is exactly that, minus the pops and scratches. The first Cajun band album I was able to find was by BeauSoleil and I found myself asking, "What the hell is that?" BeauSoleil is great in its own right (and must have material) but they were modern in their sound. The Magnolia Sisters in this one could be more authentic, but they would have to mute their highs and lows and fuzz out the midrange. They did a great job of both the sound production and preserving the traditional feel of the greats. Also of note, is their accappella pieces such as Sur la bord de l'eau.
