Book Description

August 31, 2006
PRENOEOPLASIA OF THE BREAST covers the clinical, radiological and histological diagnosis of benign proliferative breast disease and precursor lesions of breast cancer. It focuses on a new immunohistochemical method based on an innovative progenitor cell concept of breast epithelium that has been developed by Prof. Boecker, Prof. Schnitt and Prof. Silverstein. This technique can also be used for small samples (percutaneous core biopsy) and offers high specificity, and therefore provides a greater degree of diagnostic security. The practical applicability and interpretation of the technique are integrated into a comprehensive description of all benign and malignant noninvasive proliferative diseases of the breast, including: * Interpretation of histologic samples attained by stereotactic biopsy (including immunohistochemistry) * Comparison of radiologic and pathologic * Action to be taken in the case of in-situ malignoma * Treatment of DICS

5.0 out of 5 stars Good conceptual approach to understanding of breast diseses, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Preneoplasia of the Breast: A New Conceptual Approach to Proliferative Breast Disease, 1e (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent summary to the recent understanding of anatomy and the pathogenetic hypotheses of preneoplastic breast disease. Although life is not always as simplistic as that, these hypotheses can help us to understand more on the biology of these disease, incluing the rationale behind the use of immunohistochemistry and their potential pitfalls. The hypotheses can also stipulate further research on these diesease, which further improve our understanding of these breast diseases. The description of the entities are generally adequate. Although targeted mainly to pathologists, this book is also a good reference for surgeons who manage breast diseases, as chapters on management and radiological features of these preneoplastic lesions are also included.
