Nursing Instructor Review,
By RN (GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Prentice Hall Reviews & Rationales: Child Health Nursing (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
As a nursing instructor I highly recommend this book to my students. Nursing students have very little spare time to spend sorting through a textbook looking for "important" information. This book takes all of the guesswork out of reading the text. My suggestion is to read your textbook but study from this book and then refer to the text for further clarification if neccessary.

I am a senior nursing student working towards my BSN. This book helped me out a great deal. Sometimes textbooks go on and on about certain topics instead of giving you the basics (getting to the point). This book breaks pediatric nursing down to the science. It gives you the information without all the unnecessary mumbo-jumbo. This book is a great aid when reading your text or during lecture. I received a B (88%) out of my pediatric nursing course just from studing this book 90% of the time. Quiet as kept, a lot of nursing professors take their information and exam questions from reference books. Trust me, its well worth the purchase!!

Great resource for study!,
This review is from: Prentice Hall Reviews & Rationales: Child Health Nursing (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
I would definitely recommend all of the "reviews and rationales" books. As a nursing student, I find this is a great resource book that highlights the important things. It takes a lot of time to read a textbook and I don't usually get much from it. This book composes the information in lists and also includes some helpful tables as well as things that are important to know for NCLEX. My favorite thing is the disc that comes with the book. There are approximately 45 questions divided into 3 tests for each chapter that of course gives a score and the rationale for the answer. This book is very helpful to me and I think that you would find it a useful resource as well. Hope this helps!

It's OOOOKKKKK but not all that,

I wouldn't waste my money. I thought it would have good questions. The reviews took up most of the book with only 2-3 pages of questions at the end of each chapter. In addition with this I purchased F.A. Davis Maternal-NOW THAT'S A WONDERFUL BOOK.

I used this book to study for the CPN (Certified Pediatric Nurse) exam. I have been a peds nurse for two years in both the hospital and community setting, and this book is excellent at providing concise, useful information broken down by system, as well as nclex style practice questions and full rationales for each question. The CD rom has the 20 pre- and post- test questions from each chapter, as well as an additional 30 questions per topic. While it is not exhaustive of every pediatric condition, it is an excellent aid and reviews basic and vital information.

This whole series is helping me pass nursing school. It outlines everything in a neat order. The answers to the questions have rationales for the right AND wrong answers and tells you which words to watch for so you can answer those wonderful Nursing school test questions.

I am in nursing school and unfortunately haven't found these series of books to be particularly useful to me. Additionally, the font is small and does not really make me engaged with the material.

Good for peds as a supplement book,
This review is from: Prentice Hall Reviews & Rationales: Child Health Nursing (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
I like this book because it points out the most critical need-to-know basics for most pediatric diseases/conditions. There should be more topics covered in the book though (communicable diseases!). I would be able to get Bs if I just used this book and nothing else, but as a supplement to notes, not missing lectures, and occasional use of the Prentice Hall Child Health Nursing textbook, As all the way. Would recommend.
