Errors throughout,
This review is from: Prep for PRAXIS: PRAXIS II, 18th edition (Praxis II Exam) (Paperback)
I bought this book thinking it would be great for the 4 Praxis II exams that I am going to take. Unfortunately, there were typos and other errors throughout the book that changed the answers to the listed questions, or the correct answer wasn't even listed with the question. This book was poorly edited and the mistakes were not caught. I often found that the correct answer wasn't even listed with a questions or that there was more than one right answer. This is not a book I woud recommend until the errors are corrected.

I was not that impressed with the book. It only gave one practice exam in each field. It also didn't mention areas that should be reviewed before taking the exam. I took the general science exam and it was hard, hopefully I passed so I won't have to take it again.

Outdated Information,

This review is from: Prep for PRAXIS: PRAXIS II, 18th edition (Praxis II Exam) (Paperback)
Despite the 2005 copyright, this book has outdated test information, particularly for the subtest. It refers to a no-longer included section and has other inconsistencies with the current test. If you use this book, make very sure to read the test bulletin provided online very carefully to make sure you are studying for the test you will actually take. I found this book to be no help at all studying for the test. I had to get another study guide and luckily I did. Because of this other Praxis II study guide at [...](and prayer), I was able to pass the exam!! I really liked the answer key, not only did they explain WHY the answer is what it is, but why the other answers were incorrect. I found this very helpful in the areas I needed to strenghten. If you get no other study book, THIS is the one. I only had a total of about 8 hours study time with the Praxis II mentoring I received and I passed with flying colors.

REVIEW for ARCO Preparation for the Praxis II Exam, 18th edition,
By Bee (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Prep for PRAXIS: PRAXIS II, 18th edition (Praxis II Exam) (Paperback)
I bought the ARCO Preparation for the Parxis II Exam because it had material for several tests I needed to take without all the Praxis I content that I didn't need anymore. The book covers the Principles of Learning and Teaching tests at different grade levels and also has practice question sets for 21 subject assessments. I couldn't find another Praxis II book that had such broad coverage. The problem was that, with so many subject tests covered, there weren't as many questions as I would have liked for each of the tests I needed. But even so, I thought the book showed me what to expect on the tests so I wasn't surprised on test day. I didn't find any typos in my book so maybe they've all been fixed in later printings of the book.

Weak on Content,

I was looking for help on one specific topic. There were 20 questions total. The real test will have 6 times that. In all, it didn't give me any idea the kinds of topics to expect or the difficulty of questions I'm looking at. And there's no explination for the answer key. Save your money. Buy a book that's specific to the test you're taking. Out of this entire book, I used 5 pages (counting the answer key).

I Wish I Hadn't ...,
This review is from: Prep for PRAXIS: PRAXIS II, 18th edition (Praxis II Exam) (Paperback)
...ordered this book. It was less than nonhelpful for studying for the Middle School Reading Language Arts Praxis II (1049). The content of the sample tests actually made me feel that I was in no way going to be able to pass this test. In addition, the provided no information that could help me learn what I apparently did not know. Get the Cliffs Test Prep. Just in time, I realized that it was a comprehensive, stand-alone study guide that will continue to be useful as a classroom reference tool. P.S. I passed with flying colors. |
