Book Description

November 1, 1998
Cisco Systems' CCIE certification (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) is the hottest thing going in networking today. Trouble is, the exam you have to pass and the two-day lab you have to successfully complete to earn it, will be the toughest such challenges you've ever faced. Over 70 % fail on their first try. This study guide stacks the odds in your favor.

This is the first independently-produced CCIE preparation reference to include real-life practice lab scenarios. There are thirty scenarios in all, designed to prepare you for the pressure-packed build-break-restore lab portion of the certification process. It also contains 600 carefully prepared questions that are designed to measure your networking knowledge in the very same way the questions on the actual test will challenge you. But unlike the real test, this reference gives you the answers, including detailed, step-by-step explanations whenever appropriate. And each question is coded by topic and certification tract, so you can use this reference to prepare for Cisco's recently introduced CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, and CCDP certifications as well.

In addition to containing all of the questions, explanations, and lab scenarios found in the hard-copy, the accompanying CD-ROM includes software that lets you build your own test by topic, certification track, or both. And when you've completed your personalized test, your score is instantly calculated for you.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

As Certified Cisco System Instructors, we're finding that a goal most all of our students share is to become a CCIE. The financial and professional rewards are considerable for qualified individuals who hold this certification.

Unlike the Microsoft (MCSE) and Novell (CNE) certifications, which consist of just written exams, the CCIE process also includes a grueling two-day lab, where several different skills are tested in a controlled environment.

There are literally dozens of reference products available, specifically designed to help network professionals prepare for the MCSE and CNE written exams. The same is not true for the CCIE. There are fewer than five independently produced CCIE preparation references currently available, and not one of them provides sample lab scenarios.

This is why we've developed the CCIEprep.com Study Guide. It fills a critical information gap for networking professionals who want to be better prepared for the difficult CCIE process.

Together, we share the networking knowledge, classroom experience, and ongoing awareness of current Cisco developments necessary to produce an effective CCIE study resource. We're happy to share this expertise with you. Good luck in your pursuit of the hottest and most profitable certification in the industry.

About the Author

Louis D. Rossi started his career as a computer programmer for U. S. Trust on Wall Street in the late 60s. He then spent eleven years teaching math and science at several different high schools in upstate New York. In 1981 he became a trainer for Tandy Radio Shack in Jacksonville, Florida. He fell in love with the work and began earning key instructor certifications. In 1993 he obtained his Novell CNE certification and his Certified Novell Instructor certification, followed by his MCNE in 1994. In 1996 he received his CCSI certification. Since then, he has combined his two passions, teaching and networking, to provide Novell and Cisco training to thousands of network professionals around the country. He is currently writing a series of booklets that will help users reduce the amount of time it takes to construct specific network configurations. Lou is based in Tallahassee, Florida, and can be reached at lrossisr@ar-inc.com.

Lou's oldest son, Louis R. Rossi, graduated with a degree in Physics from Florida State University in 1992 and began his career in network engineering four months later. Young Lou has obtained many certifications including Novell CNE-3, Novell CNE-4, Certified Novell Instructor (CNI), Master CNE (MCNE), Certified Cisco Systems Instructor (CCSI), and in October of 1997, he obtained his Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification on his first attempt. Like his Dad, Lou has conducted hundreds of Cisco router, Catalyst Switch, and Novell Operating System classes throughout the United States. He has successfully designed, implemented, and troubleshot networks for a diverse list of clients, including Citicorp International, Chase Manhattan, and Watson Wyatt International. In September of 1995, he formed Andrews Rossi Incorporated, a network engineering, consulting, and training firm, based in St. Augustine, Florida. He can be reached at lrossi@ar-inc.com.

Tom Rossi graduated from the University of Florida in 1993 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. After spending several years in computational fluid dynamics, programming, and relational database design, he began his own consulting company, Capernaum. Tom, like his father and brother, entered the network engineering training field, beginning with Microsoft training. He completed his MCSE in August of 1996. Since then, Capernaum has become a Microsoft Solution Provider in Jacksonville, Florida. Tom obtained his CCSI in 1997. Tom can be reached at trossi@capernaum.com.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bought this before it was avail here, October 29, 1999

I've bought a subscription to the authors web site some time back and bought this book based on all the hard selling he was doing on his web site.

He cliams that it was a completed materials for preparing for CCIE. It's not, having taken the CCNA and CCNP, it doesn't even come close for this exams either.

Worse, all the questions are taken from his web site, so if you subscribe and you bought the book, you are basically paying OVERPRICE TWICE for the same thing in different package !

Lots of errors in the software. I never got around to the book because frankly the questions doesn't come close .

I would have put ZERO star if it's possible

2.0 out of 5 stars A good review tool., June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: CCIE Prep.com Study Guide (Hardcover)
This "book" is nothing of the sort. It is a collection of test questions and practice labs. The questions in general are not as specific as the questions on the real CCIE test. What this is, is a metric. The CD will test you and let you know where you need to study. The explanations of the answers are mostly good, but not in debth enough to stand as the only study tool you use. If you buy this book, use it as a measuring tool, not a study guide. By using this and studying Cisco's books, I passed the written on my first try. But then I also have 10 years of experience in the field.

I haven't tried the practice labs yet, but will post again after I do.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't be fooled by the name !, March 8, 2000

After passing the CCIE Written Exam last week, I re-read this book and found that it was not worth to pay such money for it.

Most of topics related to CCIE exam are not covered in this book (check the blueprint of ccie R/S on cisco web site ). Although the tilte of the book is " ... CCIE." , like many "ccie" books on the market now, it has less thing to do with the real CCIE level !

Publisher should be careful about the what this kind of books talk about and don't mislead readers !

Don't get fooled !
