Looks/works great, two minor issues,

This review is from: Prepac Cherry Large Capacity Hanging Wall Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage (Kitchen)
This hanging media unit solves a big problem I had with lack of available floor space for a standing unit. It went together quickly, had all the parts, and looks great on the wall. Unlike other floor-standing units, it has a "face frame" - framing on the front of the unit that makes it look more like a finished cabinet and helps make it stronger and more stable. While this looks really nice, and makes it very strong, the downside is that the frames obscure one item on each side of each shelf. In my configuration I have 12 shelves, including the bottom. So 24 items - for me, 12 CDs and 12 DVDs - would end up hidden behind the frames where you cannot see the title and you would need to temporarily remove adjacent items to get those end ones out. So I will end up putting in empty "filler" DVD & CD cases in all those end spots because I want to be able to see all my titles without moving things around. That wastes some space (about 8% of total shelf space), which is my only issue with the design. But it still holds a lot of stuff, and is a big help. Also note that it is designed to most efficiently hold only CDs. If you have a mix of DVDs & CDs, or only DVDs, there will be some unusable space at the top left over. The mounting system is a horizontal board you screw into the wall studs which has a full-length lip that mates with a similar board on the unit. I found it really easy to hang and make it level, and it feels very strong, which is important with so much stuff on it. The manufacturer, Prepac, always ships units direct from the factory, so it really doesn't matter who you order it from, just go for the lowest price. Fast shipping: I ordered on a Tuesday, got it the following Monday! Warning: the box is very heavy and it helps to have 2 people to carry it. But it was packed well to prevent shipping damage. I've never found a storage unit this nice in any local store, so online shopping totally wins out here.
Update - a second minor thing to be aware of: this unit does have a noticeable odor of particle board, even after 3 weeks so far on a wall in an open room. I have mine in a spare room, so it's not a big deal, but if you are thinking of putting it in a bedroom someone sleeps in, you might want to reconsider - I'd have trouble sleeping with that odor, especially with the door closed, and it is taking a lot longer for the smell to dissipate than I expected.

Very happy with this unit,

This review is from: Prepac Cherry Large Capacity Hanging Wall Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage (Kitchen)
We had been looking for a media storaqge unit that would fit a particular section of our home theater. Upon finding this unit, we quickly took the given dimensions, and measured the area of our room that would potentially receive the unit.
Once we established that it would fit perfectly, we ordered the rack, and received it in a timely fashion. Unlike most of the other individuals that have ordered this rack, we planned for it to rest on our carpeted floor, rather that be mounted on the wall. On that floor, it rests very well, and with, or without media on it, it is very stable. I have to agree with some points that others have commented upon regarding this unit: 1. It is best suited for storing 100% CDs. If your plans are for 100% DVDs, or Blu-ray discs, you may very likely find one remaining shelf level awkward for storing either. We creatively addressed it, storing mostly DVDs, a few CDs, and some decorative items. 2. We found assembling the unit relatively easy, but putting the top mantel on was a slight problem, as the holes for it did not quite line up slightly. We enlarged the one hole slightly, and all fit perfectly then. 3. It looks like the wall fit would work quite well, perhaps one day we might use it on the wall. It looks very classy in our room, and is very solid once assembled. I give it a high recomendation.
