Expand bedside storage with this attractive king-sized storage headboard from Ready-to-Assemble furniture leader, Prepac. Equipped with six built-in compartments of varying sizes, the headboard provides ample space for reading materials, eyeglasses, an alarm clock, framed photographs, and other personal items. The headboard is crafted out of laminated composite wood with a profiled MDF top. Finished in a contemporary espresso, the headboard complements Prepac’s espresso-finished platform beds, as well as the Regency and Manhattan bedroom collections. This headboard also comes in twin- and full/queen- sized models, and in four other finishes. To clean the headboard, wipe with a damp cloth and dry. Take care not to spill drinks on the MDF as it is not waterproof and will disintegrate if exposed to excess moisture. Likewise, use a coaster if setting a beverage in one of the storage compartments. Do not finish or varnish the headboard as it already has a laminate finish. Shipped flat with foam injection packaging, the headboard requires adult assembly upon arrival. Consumers benefit from a one-year, free part replacement program for faulty parts. Prepac covers this item with a 5-year limited warranty. Once assembled, the king-sized storage headboard measures 81-1/2 inches wide by 11 inches deep by 43 inches high.

I knew from the other reviews that this storage headboard was not going to be the best quality. I had no problems putting it together, but it came scratched (on the front piece!) and the way the front moldings went on was sketchy. The plastic joining part for the front moldings broke off and could not be tightly joined in the front. Nonetheless, it looks pretty good (most people haven't noticed the part that is broken and doesn't fit together well)and is the perfect solution to our problem of needing storage for books, glasses, clocks, etc. at bedside without nightstands. Another design improvement would have been to put electrical cutouts in the backing material...

This headboard is a great price, it's functional, and looks very stylish once it's put together. It is a spacesaver if you have a narrow bedroom like we do, which can not accomodate nightstands. Assembly is not too difficult if you have assembled something before. Some of the pieces are very fragile until they are put together. Just take it very slowly, read the instructions carefully, and get some help with the large parts. I assembled the king headboard right on top of our bed, it was the most comfortable place to do so, and then it was easy to transfer it to the floor, with help from my husband. In addition, I cut two holes in the back board as pass throughs for electrical cords, using a hole cutter on my drill. It is better to drill the holes before you tack on the back, as this will protect the thin finish better. Just hold up the back to the assembled headboard case, measure and mark where the holes are needed, and then move the back to a safe place on the floor where you can drill the holes. Drill slowly, and you will have a good result. We are very pleased with this headboard.

Pros:
- Good looking - Doesn't feel cheap (after assembly) - Fairly easy assembly (be carful on the hammering parts. I hammered the plastic pegs in a little to hard and put a small dent in the top board of the unit.) - Inexpensive - FREE shipping! Cons: - The finish comes off VERY easily. Mine had several gouges and scratches right out of the box. - The MDF is too thin to last more than a few years. (I would only buy this piece if you're expecting to replace it 2-5 years.) - You cannot set drinks or get the headboard wet in any way (according to the instruction manual) or the MDF will disintegrate. Four stars for the extremely cheap finish. If this unit simply had a better finish it would be a five star piece I could recommend to anyone.
