best mister on the market,
By
This review is from: Prepara Oil Mister, White (Kitchen)
this is the best mister on the market because it has a glass base. I had the Misto for a little over a year but the oil was starting to wear on the plastic parts and discolor, so i bought a prepara mister. It rocks. You can also sterilize it with boiling water- which you can not do with the Misto. It also looks great on the kitchen counter.

Just what I was looking for,

I was a little concerned by reading the other reviews. I found you NEED to release the trapped air after you are done spraying. Also, keeping the bottle vertical helps the length of spray time. I have had no issues with clogging and use almost daily.

I bought this to use instead of spray cans. When one must avoid soy you have to mist your own oil. I have only used this with olive oil. For the most part it works great. For a few days it was cranky. It sprayed a stream instead of a mist. I think I may have not twisted the top on tight enough to get a good seal. I have found I need to use what seems to be more spray than my canned stuff. But it works marvelously. I do untwist the lid after each use.
I would recommend this to others. Keeps you away from soy and allows for fresher oil.

The Prepara Oil Mister works better than I anticipated. You fill the bottom glass container with oil (or what ever you need misted), replace the top (it's plastic), pump with the outside top cover made of a break resistant plastic, and spray. The spray creates a mist of oil that easily coats an entire pan, skillet, plate of veggies, or chicken pieces ready for the grill.
This is such a nifty device, even my husband loves it. Because it creates a fine mist, the coating on veggies and meats is light and doesn't waste oil. If you want the oil to stream a little rather that mist, don't pump it up as much. Now I can abandon those cans of aerosol spray oil that leave ugly spots on my nice pans. I'm so glad I found this cute little mister. The only room for improvement I found was: I wish the oil vessel was larger as to hold more oil, and I wish the top white plastic part was made from stainless steel.

As Compared To The Misto...,

I've only owed one other brand of oil mister aside from this one. So, this review is a comparison to the Martha Stewart Misto.
1) Spraying- The Prepara Oil Mister sprays out the oil coating a much wider coverage area. So you don't have to pump nearly as much to coat a pan. The best way to coat is to just hold the pan vertically up and spray with the mister. It just doesn't work the same when you angle the Prepara mister and try to spray a pan on the stove. This does not matter with the Martha Stewart Misto because it drips no matter what. 2) Design- The Prepara Oil Mister is much more attractive. Since the Prepara mister is see-through its easy to see when your out of oil. With my old Misto I had to open it up and check if I was out of oil. 3) Versatility- I liked the look of the Prepara Oil Mister so much I bought another one for table-top salad dressing. Although I can only compare this to the Misto I think I did a great job at replacing it. It's more expensive but it is BPa-free.

Mister purchased for my wife specifically. We normally use a spray oil for our cooking. Our nutritionally correct daughter mandated we use something else. So this is why we are trying the mister. So far it has done exactly as advertised. We have loaded it with olive oil, have used it everyday for cooking and just to spray on salad. We do recommend this product and will purchase another for sisters and friends.

I have had no problems with this item. It works fine, but if you pump it up for the number of times the instructions say, it just doesn't spray for a long enough time to complete the job. And I do not like to over oil the items I am using this with. Perhaps if it was a little larger, more air could be compressed and we could get the salt to stick to the popcorn without pumping it up 3 times. That's why it gets only 4 stars. But if all you need to do is mist a bread pan to make some banana bread - it'll do that just fine.

Good, but couple of minor issues,

This is really nice item, but it has some minor issues
1) Air reserve is way too low. Mister can spray for 10, maybe 15 seconds before you need to pump it again. 2) This one is hard to describe. Basically it pulverizes oil into too small particles. When the spray hits whatever you are oiling, some of particles will "bounce" into the air, creating an "oil fog" in the air. This fog will then settle on your furniture and utensils. Not very fun.

I wanted an oil mister and looked at all the reviews for the ones sold by Amazon.
I decided to try this one because it has a glass base which can be put in the dishwasher. It's easy to use, but be sure to pick this up by the glass base and not the top because the top easily comes off and the mister drops. Also, I wish this came in a larger size because I would find that more convenient, but for now this works fine.

Best I've Tried,

I ordered this mister for my mother the same day I ordered the stainless steel Norpro for myself. They both had similar reviews, so I got this white one to match her kitchen, and the stainless Norpro for mine. I was more than a little jealous when hers turned out better than mine. They're both clear so you can see to fill it, but this one is smooth, heavy glass; the Norpro is acrylic that takes on a cloudy look after some use. The Prepara gives a nice, even mist--the closest I've found to the unhealthy aerosol cans. Like with any non-aerosol mister, you're going to get a few larger droplets or "squirts" at times, particularly towards the end of the spray when the pressure is running out. Most of the small gripes I've read about with all air-powered misters just come with the territory of going aerosol-free. If you're making a change, you have to expect things to be different. People seem to get really disappointed or even irate when air misters don't spray the same as aerosol cans, or natural sugar substitutes don't taste like regular sugar--or artificial sugar. But you can't make a change and then blame the product when it's just not the same. The only thing that will spray just like an aerosol can is an aerosol can. This mister does, however, come close. So far it has performed nicely and consistently, and in my opinion gives the best spray you can get without chemical propellants. I've noticed that releasing the leftover pressure after each use seems to help give more consistent results. The spray is not as fine or as even when mom forgets to "let the air out" in between uses. It looks like it holds very little oil, but that small amount lasts a surprisingly long time because you use so much less when you spray instead of pour in oil to coat the pan. It's also nice for spraying onto salads and for putting just enough oil on pasta to keep it from sticking. The more pumps you give it, the finer the mist; a fine spray to coat meat takes 7-8 pumps; a coarser spray for salads or coating pans only needs 5-6. I've also read horror stories about "exploding" misters. This won't happen if you take your cues from the sprayer. You can feel the pressure build with each pump; when you start feeling decent resistance, stop pumping; it's pressurized and ready to spray. Any mister that you overpump will blow its top--all that pressure has to go somewhere; if you don't force too much pressure in, the mister won't force it back out. Every time I use this mister at my mom's, I consider swiping it back and switching it for mine, but I don't have the heart. I'll just wait till my Norpro wears out and then replace it with this model. To me, the lack of chemicals and the ability to choose my own type and quality of oil more than makes up for any nominal difference people find in the performance of this mister over spray cans. |
