Am I being punished? Did I foreshadow something? Or is this all just a big coincidence? A few months ago I wrote a review for Amazon.com of a Sit and Solve Sudoku book, one of those charming toilet shaped puzzle books, and I gently mocked the gimmick of puzzles to work on while sitting on the toilet. I pretended to think the intention was to sit on the toilet the under time you are working on the puzzle, and I conflated mental straining with the physical valsalva straining of passing stool. Pretty cute. My conclusion was that Sit and Solve Sudokus are dangerous, can lead to hemmorhoids.

At the time I wrote that, I had no hemmorhoids. Hemmorhoids were just a comic device, a medical condition and a punch-line rolled into one neat, protuding package.

But now this. It's happened. And I'm not quite sure why. I find myself in the unfortunate position of being a hemmorhoid sufferer, and suddenly it's no joking matter. This really affects me personally, affects my identity. I now need to redefine myself as a hemmorhoid sufferer. The indignity!

But thank you preperation H. It's sympathomimetic actions cause a vasoconstriction that reduces the hemorrhoids. Normally I'm a fan of the original formulations of products, but in this case I find the aloe and cooling gel to be a pleasant twist on the inheritently distatsteful task of applying the medication. Of course, stool softeners such as colace, along with a high fiber diet, and staying well hydrated also have to be part of the plan. Apply preperation H and enjoy!
