4.0 out of 5 stars I only used the practice tests in this book
I took the AP Statistics test almost two years ago but I still remember how this book helped me prep for it because I found it so helpful. Before, all the equations were jumbled up in my head but after going through practice test after practice test from this book, I felt more and more confident. When I took the test, I breezed through it and ended up with a 5. The...

I'll quickly admit to this: the concepts in this book are explained much more clearly than anything my teacher has said or given to me. But, of course, she's a horrible teacher.

However, I've never seen so many typos in a book! I'm convinced that whoever wrote this up was either not paying attention or had no idea what they were typing. For instance: on pg. 466 they...

The reason I didn't give 5 stars to this book is that the practice tests weren't exactly like the actual test. But that's not a big deal because the practice tests were good preparation anyway, and I don't think any other book has more accurate tests. After all, the AP Statistics test has only been around a few years. My teacher is the one who gave us the practice tests from this book and he is a grader of the AP test so he's someone you can trust.

This review is from: How to Prepare for the AP Statistics, 2007 3rd Edition, (Barron's How to Prepare for the Ap Statistics Advanced Placement Examination) (Paperback)

466 they state the null hypothesis as Ho:p1-p2=0, and then Ha:p1-p2=0. For those of you who haven't taken statistics, this is nonsense. Ha is supposed to be the opposite of Ho.

On page 180, there is a formula for the variance of a binomial distribution: Sigma squared X = (1-p). I thought it looked odd but I tried it out to find my answer completely off the mark. I was freaking out until I saw the right equation in a paragraph at the top of the page (... =np(1-p))

While often if you try, you can find your way around these, being fed misinformation while studying for an AP exam is terrifying. Keep away until another edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never taken a statistics class and got a 5, December 7, 2001
By
Mike Paradis (Goshen, KY USA) - See all my reviews
Statistics is probably one of the easiest AP exams you can take if you are a math-minded person. I bought this book and went through it once, and without using anything else I was able to achieve a 5 on the Stat exam. Saved me a lot of trouble when I got to college by already having the credit, I would recommend anyone with skills in math take the Stat exam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Understandable, September 17, 2005
This review is from: How to Prepare for the AP Statistics, 2007 3rd Edition, (Barron's How to Prepare for the Ap Statistics Advanced Placement Examination) (Paperback)
After a completely incomprehensible text book, I was prepared to open this prep book and continue being confused. However, the Barron's guide was easy to understand, contained all pertinent tables, and even had some visual aids that made memorizing p and p-hat much easier. Sure it was boring, but its a prep book its not supposed to be fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one is the Best review!!, August 20, 2006
This review is from: How to Prepare for the AP Statistics, 2007 3rd Edition, (Barron's How to Prepare for the Ap Statistics Advanced Placement Examination) (Paperback)
As a teacher of AP Stats for 7 years, I have found this book to be the best and I encourage my students to purchase it. I love the questions at the end of each section and the fact that answers are explained in detail for not only the free response, but multiple choice. The practice exams at the end are also wonderful and it tells how to get a score for your efforts. This book has become my "stat bible" for my reviews leading up to that first week in May! Thanks to Barron's!

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but updated edition needed, July 3, 2001
By A Customer
I used this book to review for the 2001 AP statistics exam in class. It was very useful because my class was taught using a standard college statistics book, and lacked the depth needed to do well on the exam. When used over nearly and entire semester, I practically relearned statistics using this book. The review chapters are extremely useful and very in depth. They cover everything you need to know for the exam at the level you need to know it.

However, the end of chapter and review test problems are a different story. They were designed after the old form of the test which stressed calculator usage. However, when taking the test, I found that most of the review problems were nothing like the ones on the actual test. Luckily, I still managed to get a 5, because of the review chapters. This is definitely a book that you need to start at least 2 months before the actual test to let it all sink in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barrons is the way to go., September 11, 2002
My AP statistics teacher wasn't the greatest teacher. She did not believe in assigning homework. As far as AP exams go, AP statistics is one of the easiest ones. This book helps you prepare wonderfully. The only problem with this book is it doesn't teach you how to fully utilize the statistics features of the ti-83 or ti-89 calculator (both allowable on the AP stats exam). In my class last year, only 2 people got 5s, 2 got 3s, and the rest failed. These were not stupid people. Two of the seniors are now at Cornell. But anyway, for AP statistics, this is THE BOOK TO GET. With this book, you can easily achieve a 5. The problems in this book are HARDER than the ones on the exam. This book REALLY PREPAREs you to get a 5. I did, and you can too.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the greatest, May 12, 2007

This review is from: How to Prepare for the AP Statistics, 2007 3rd Edition, (Barron's How to Prepare for the Ap Statistics Advanced Placement Examination) (Paperback)
unfortunately i didnt look at any other ap stats review books since i was forced to get this one by my teacher but this one wasnt that great. I went into the AP test thinking the questions would mirror those on Baron's practice exams but they didnt. Also, many of the answer explanations in barons arent sufficient. Its not a terrible book and it probably helped me a bit with practicing, but i could have done without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book from a NY high school student, May 6, 2004

This review is from: How to Prepare for the AP Statistics, 2007 3rd Edition, (Barron's How to Prepare for the Ap Statistics Advanced Placement Examination) (Paperback)
My whole class used this book. The chapter reviews were easy to follow and very thorough. The practice exams were more difficult than the real exam and so we were really prepared.

5.0 out of 5 stars It got me a five;and I didn't even take the class., July 9, 2001
By A Customer
Well I didn't take AP statistics this year. I took normal statistics last year and took the exam this year. Although this book sort of slacked off in the end with the BETA-test topic, the rest of the topics were well-reviewed. Take it from me: you don't even need a text book to get a 5 on the AP test if you get this study guide.
