I was required to undergo cervical spine surgery to replace 3 herniated disks, fuse 4 vertebrae and relieve compression on my central spinal cord. The sugery involved anterior entry throught the throat with numerous attendant risks. I was, in a word, terrified; however, without surgery, paralysis and increased loss of function was a risk. I was introduced by a family member to Peggy Huddleston's "Prepare for Surgery; Heal Faster" book and tape by a family member. I took advantage of the free one hour phone workshop offered to purchasers to assist with my preparation, and I faithfully listened to the tape two times a day one week prior to surgery. The results were astounding. I moved from deep, haunting feelings of fear and doubt into feelings of peace, optimism, hope and confidence. The book, tape and workshop enabled me to quickly become an active participant in my surgical process and recovery.
The surgery was 2 weeks ago. I have minimal to no pain. I have not used any pain medication other than Tylenol and have made very rapid progress in regaining strength and mobility. The mind-body connection is a powerful one. Ms. Huddleston's very simple, straightforward 5-Step Process allowed me to maximize it to the benefit of myself and my family. I highly recommend it to anyone facing surgery, chemo therapy or life threatening illness. Profound!

As one who has experienced several major surgeries, as well as working professionally with people facing surgery for over 20 years, I cannot recommend Huddleston's book too highly. I have used these elegantly simple steps myself and guide others to use them as they prepare for surgery. I have seen the whole pre- and postoperative experience transformed from one of fear and pain to one of peace and unexpected levels of comfort. Read the book and use the tape - you'll be very you did! ...

I used the book and tape prior to having a kidney removed. I also visited Peggy Huddleston in her office and had a wonderful talk with her, which calmed my fears about the surgery and aftermath. I was off of pain medication the day I left the hospital, and anyone who has had a kidney removed knows that it is one of the most painful surgeries. I am sending this to a friend who is now preparing for surgery.

This book and tape really got me through my surgery. Many wonderful suggestions for preparing yourself mentally and physically. I used the tape on the way to the hospital and post-surgically to relax. It is also really helpful for falling asleep even after you have healed. A great, great book and tape.

Absolute must for anyone who is having surgery and wants to feel calm and heal faster. I tried it myself and had a speedy recovery and none of the side affects of anesthesia I feared. I used tylenol for pain and left the hospital 2 days early.

I used this tape for 2 years to deal with chronic illness and surgery. I tried many other tapes but this one induced relaxation and sleep despite my anxieties.

Huddleston walks the reader through a variety of techniques including relaxation, visualization and the use of "healing statements". She stresses the importance of communicating w/ your doctors and having them support you as needed.

While one reviewer has claimed to be disheartened by the frequent reference to the audio tape. I read this book and used most of the techniques without the use of the tape, and was very successful. I think that the tape may be useful for someone who has little or no experience with meditation or relaxation. I found my background in meditation to be enough.

I didn't realize I was getting an audio cassette, but decided to try it out prior to my major surgery. It is totally useless. The woman's monotone voice repeats the same few lines over and over, saying the same things one can say to oneself in medication. "Relax your left toes." "Go deeper." "Now relax your left knee." I was expecting at least some instructional narrative about PREPARING FOR SURGERY! Maybe it was necessary to buy the book and tape together,...

I coordinate a cardiac rehabilitation program and use this tape as part of the stress management education. Although the title refers to surgical healing, there is no mention of surgery during the tape. All my patients report a relaxation response from listening to the tape in class, and many have requested the title and source for home use. I would recommend it to anyone.
