Book Description

Where Will Your Daughter Turn for Answers About Sex?

Long before we may realize it, our daughters are bombarded with messages about sex–from friends, advertisers, media icons, and more. All of this input–along with the whirlwind of emotions that accompany puberty–can leave them confused, filled with unasked questions about boys, dating, sex, and their own value.

While you may believe that your preteen or early adolescent is too young for “the talk,” now is the perfect time for creative conversations about sexuality. By introducing key principles and truths during these teachable years, you can lay a foundation that will help your daughter withstand the inevitable pressures young women face. And you’ll create a lasting bond, establishing yourself as a trustworthy authority who is willing to help her address the sensitive issues in her life.

Recognizing how awkward it can be to confront the topic of sex, author Shannon Ethridge guides you and your daughter through enjoyable yet memorable discussions about sexuality, purity, and dating–leading to a deeper understanding of and appreciation for God’s standards. Preparing Your Daughter for Every Woman’s Battle provides creative tools that will give you the courage and confidence to talk openly and honestly with your daughter–and instill values that will lead her to a lifetime of sexual and emotional integrity.

Praise for Preparing Your Daughter for Every Woman’s Battle

Preparing Your Daughter for Every Woman’s Battle is a book for every mom of a young daughter. If you read this book and integrate it into your relationship with your daughter while she is young, you will lay a firm foundation for the potentially stressful and stormy days of adolescence.  Too many moms wait until the storms come to discuss these important matters with their children. If you want your daughter to pursue purity, then don't wait to read this book!”
–Sharon Hersh, author of Mom, Everyone Else Does!

“When has there been a more urgent time for this newest addition to the series?  Shannon Ethridge answers the questions anxious mothers are asking, and in a thorough, straight-on way. I wish I’d had this book when my daughter was growing up.”
–Nancy Rue, author of the Lily and the Sophie series

Being in ZOEgirl has taught me to be very careful about the things I endorse or represent, but this book is one that I can stand behind completely. Preparing Your Daughter is the perfect tool for opening up the lines of communication between you and your child on some very tough topics: love, lust, singleness, marriage, and all that's in between. Beyond that it will help your daughter discover first and foremost God’s unconditional love for her as well as increase the likelihood that she will embark on a healthy, whole, and enjoyable journey toward feminine maturity.
--Chrissy Conway of ZOEgirl

Praise for Every Young Woman’s Battle

Right from the start, Ethridge catches readers off guard with her let’s-get-real frankness. But this is a good thing, considering the fact that her book…tackles the nitty-gritty netherworld of teen girls’ sexuality…. In her trademark girl-to-girl tone, she covers f...

4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good... January 5, 2006
Format:Paperback
What an amazing book. Very well written, and down to earth ideas. Our jobs as parents are to protect, teach, and lead our children in their development. Because of the importance of this topic, we often avoid things we should be taking advantage of. This books help you find things in our everyday lives to use as lessons. I gave this book only 4 stars because I am only half way done. I am learning tons of information, and cant wait until the time is right to read the other half with our daughter who is 10. For now, we will work on planting the seeds for our discussion that will be coming as soon the opportunity arrises. Definately a book that I would suggest. If there is one topic that will shape your childs future, this one is it. Take the time, and spend the money. I couldn't think of a better investment.

I bought this book to read with my 9 yr old daughter. She absolutely loved snuggling on the couch or by our fire pit to read another chapter. I realized I was so busy that I rarely made time just to "hang out" with her. She told me things she was thinking and feeling that she had kept to herself up until now. It definitely opened the door to some conversations that we never would have had if I hadn't bought this book and sat down to read it with her. The book tells first about the physical aspects of adolescence and then goes into other areas that come into play like keeping secrets from parents, and dressing modestly, and picking friends, and talking with character among other things. My daughter has often asked me, "Mom, could we read another chapter of that book?" I highly recommend this book for ages 9-12 for these reasons. It is a valuable resource on multiple levels. Thanks Shannon Etheridge.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have! August 6, 2007
Format:Paperback
If it is your hope to raise your daughter with Biblical integrity, this book in a "must have!" Reading the second half with my daughter is challenging but well worth it. Although she is somewhat uncomfortable, she has admitted that she is grateful for the opportunity to openly discuss these topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book to Read with your Daughter September 19, 2008
Format:Paperback
This is a wonderful easy to read book with your daughter. There maybe some topics that we all find unsettling to talk with our children about, but this book makes it easy to bring up the subject of sex and respectfull discuss how God wants her to conduct herself. I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars great for moms, not for daughters March 4, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was highly disappointed with this book. The male companion book, "Preparing Your Son for Every Man's Battle" is absolutely fantastic. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat to every mom and dad of a 10-15 year old. This "Daughter" version is unimpressive, though. It's written by just one author, which limits it's usefulness to just one person's experience. It would have been much, much better if there was a co-author who came from a different background, in order to balance out the advice. Honestly, how much can this woman know if she did everything wrong when she was a kid, and she's only raised one daughter? Not that her advice can't be helpful, but it's so *limited* that it really needs some other voices backing her up. I found the whole tone of the second half to be very holier-than-thou and trust-me-because-i-say-so, which I can't imagine any preteen girl responding favorably to. Read it yourself, mom, and use the example conversations to start your *own* talks with your daughter. Give her lots of reasons behind your advice, but respectfully ask for her opinions too. By this age, you know that you can't just dictate rules anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK NOW! May 31, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you have a pre-teen daughter (9-12), you must buy this book. I wish my mom or dad had talks like this with me. It would have helped me make better choices as a young woman. Thank you God I never got pregnant or caught horrible diseases, and that I'm forgiven and free now. I want my daughters to be more assertive and have the life they want, not what others want. I wanted to be a "princess" in my heart, but I didn't have the confidence to make it happen.

More About the Author

Shannon is a million-copy best-selling author, speaker, lay counselor, and advocate for healthy sexuality with a master's degree in counseling/human relations from Liberty University. She has spoken to youth, college students, and adults since 1989 and her passions include: Challenging adults and teens to embrace a life of sexual integrity, encouraging married couples in their pursuit of sexual and emotional fulfillment, counseling women who have looked for love in all the wrong places and equipping parents to instill sexual values in children at an early age.

Her passion for healthy sexuality actually began in mortuary college. Her first career choice, becoming a mortician, led Ethridge to work on dead bodies. Many she embalmed were young people who had died from AIDS or committed suicide as a result an HIV positive diagnosis. Because of her own promiscuous teenage years, she knew it was a miracle that she was standing over the embalming table rather than laying on top of it. These experiences inspired her to begin speaking boldly and bluntly to teen, college-age, and adult audiences about the benefits of sexual integrity. She has taught and counseled thousands of young singles and married couples over the past decade. She is the author of 18 books, including the best-selling Every Woman's Battle series, the 5-book Completely His series, and her new book for the mainstream market, The Sexually Confident Wife.

Shannon has been featured on the cover of Today's Christian Woman Magazinee, and is a frequent guest on international radio & television shows such as The 700 Club, Life Today with James & Betty Robison, FamilyLife Today with Dennis Rainey, and New Life Live! with Stephen Arterburn. She has also been published in numerous magazines such as Focus on the Family, Brio, and LifeWay and is the winner of a Gold Medallion Award for Excellence in Publishing.

Although grateful for the opportunities to influence this generation as a writer and speaker, Shannon remains most passionate about her role as a wife and best friend to her husband of 18 years, Greg, and a mother and cheerleader to their two children, Erin (17) and Matthew (14).
