5.0 out of 5 stars A great book that gives solid info
It is interesting to read all of the pro-Catholic comments on here. Besides 1 of the reviews who actually gives examples in the book, all the other comments are, "this is the same anti-catholic hater-aid that keeps on going around." Its interesting that 1 of the reviews says, "there is no contradiction between the catechism and the scriptures." Are you kidding me? did...

1.0 out of 5 stars More of the same under another name.
This book is just more of the same anti-Catholicism that our fathers and grandfathers generation grew up with. The arguments he puts forth against Catholicism are the same arguments that have been put forth since the reformation, and the standard anti-Catholic rhetoric comes into play (e.g. He accuses Catholics of worshiping Mary, even when Catholics themselves deny doing...

It is interesting to read all of the pro-Catholic comments on here. Besides 1 of the reviews who actually gives examples in the book, all the other comments are, "this is the same anti-catholic hater-aid that keeps on going around." Its interesting that 1 of the reviews says, "there is no contradiction between the catechism and the scriptures." Are you kidding me? did you actually read this book? I looked many of the references in the catechism and they clearly, black and white, contradict scriptures. If you want examples of it, why don't you READ THE BOOK. it is full of contradictions between the catechism and scriptures. I have doubts that many of the pro-catholic, anti-Mike Gendron reviewers actually took time to read this book.

Here's what I suggest: read the book thoroughly, and look up the references of the catechism and the scriptures. With an OPEN MIND, decide whether or not they are contradicting each other. If you decide that they do, then you need to decide whether or not to trust in a statement of faith that the catholic church decides is what they believe in, or the holy scriptures, which is God-breathed. This book is filled with contradictions between what Catholicism teaches and what the Bible teaches. Not sure why everyone is getting so defensive about their Catholic faith. If you truly believe the Bible is the Word of God, you should feel convicted that Catholicism teaches a false gospel.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for Roman Catholics, March 15, 2004
By
Jose E Oller (Dallas, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Preparing for Eternity (Paperback)
One would think that this book is exclusively for Christians in order that they would be better equiped to address some important issues and differences between Biblical Christianity and Roman Catholicism. Having been a devout Roman Catholic, Mike Gendron goes deeper. Roman Catholics are very laking in what the Bible really says. Few read it. They assume that what the church says is Biblical. Gendron shows Catholics what the Roman Catholic church really teaches, how inconsistent with its own teachings it is and how unbiblical many of its beliefs and traditions truly are.

If a Roman Catholic is sincere about learning more about the Biblical Jesus. If he/she truly desires to have a relationship with this Jesus instead of just having "religion;" This is the book for them.

It is not Mike Gendron's opinion that is expressed. He extensively quotes the Bible and the Roman Caholic Catechism in order to get at truth.

P.S. For 46 years, I too was a Roman Catholic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knowledge is Power!, February 14, 2007

This is a great book. I like facts only and this book is scripture verses catechism. No opinions, just facts. The Reformation is when the bible was changed...by catholics! The Apocrypha books (7 extra books) were added in 1546 by the Council of Trent. Please research this for yourself. The Jews had the "true" old testament and they rejected the Apocrypha as scripture. See it pays to work off of written facts not what you have heard.

F.Y.I. Take a look at your CCC 841!! You might be shocked at what you find. Please read things for yourself; Take heed that no man deceives you! Always judge other books (including the catechism) by the scriptures in the bible. God Bless.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well Cited Resource, March 12, 2010

What a great read. The author does an incredible job citing both what the Catholic Church teaches and what the Bible teaches. Thus doing so essentially removes all opinion and let's the reader see the problematic doctrine that the RCC has in light of God's Word. I am so appreciative of the author doing all the background work and allowing me to then know exactly where to go without spending hours of searching.

I highly recommend this book to both Catholics and those that have a heart to reach Catholics with the gospel.

I would like to make a comment that of all the negative reviews for this book, only one negative review actually comments on the book's content specifically and appears to have truly read it. Sadly the other negative reviews simply seem to be using this book review listing as a place to share their frustration with those that are confronting the RCC with God's Truth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource to Minister to Catholics, December 24, 2008
This review is from: Preparing for Eternity (Paperback)
I have the privilege to Know Mike Gendron in person and I can say that he IS really concerned for those precious souls that are deceived by the Catholic church. As a former Roman Catholic I realize that the priest never encouraged me to read the Bible and instead he said thet Church had authority over Scripture (the Catholic Catechism also sais that) and this is completely contrary to Scripture.
What Mike Gendron does in his book is to expose the contradictions between THE BIBLE and the Roman Catholic Church. What he is telling you is to READ THE BIBLE and find for yourself. Don't take my interpretation or any body else's interpretation of the Bible. Read it YOURSELF and let the Holy Spirit to lead you to the truth.
There is also a Spanish Version of this book: Preparando Catolicos para la Eternidad. You can learn more about Mike Gendron and his ministry at [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars A Biblical Defense, July 26, 2004

This review is from: Preparing for Eternity (Paperback)
As i was reading through this book, i was just overwhelmed with the amount of inconsistencies in the Roman Catholic Church. Mike Gendron, a Catholic for many years himself, quite simply lays out a lot of the inconsistancies. He does not exactly go for enjoyable readership, but for strives for a more informational tool.
To hear so many horrible things said of this loving and caring man is hard. It seems that people are quick to condemn a man who stands for the truth he sees in the bible, which he does in this book. He clearly compares passages to the Catholic Catechism and with the two side by side, shows that there are drastic differences.
Those seeking to tear down the book may be able to take down a few points, but Gendron provides so many points of proof that they cannot all be dismissed. Gendron does not claim himself or anyone else as the authority, but takes it back to God's Word, the true authority of the Church.
Gendron realizes that many people are offended by his ministry, but that does not stop him from presenting the truth of God's word against the traditions of the Catholic Church.
I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who wishes to be more informed on the differences between Catholicism and Protestantism. It is a good tool for any protestant to have, as it is very useful to keep referring to when faced with a question or a Catholic friend asking questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent Exegesis, June 29, 2011

This review is from: Preparing for Eternity (Paperback)
When Jesus was tempted of the devil he quoted scripture because the Bible is the final authority on all matters.

As an ex-catholic myself, I find catholics to be very closed minded relative to spiritual matters. Its because the god of this world (satan) has blinded them to the truth 2Cor4:4. Catholics are also lazy and lukewarm in wanting to know the truth. They also follow rome whom has been apostate since Constantine. But catholics don't care about their church history ridden with forced conversions and bloodshed (40 million tortured and killed) and countless bibles burnt. Let alone what the vatican ordered during WW2 in Croatia as Avro Manhattan documented in the Vatican Holocaust.

Mike Gendron puts the heresy of the catechism in easy to read and understand format how the doctrines of the vatican are anti-bible and anti-Holy Spirit who moved men to give us the scriptures per 2Peter1:21. The catholics I give this to don't read it because they could care less of what the truth is. But I keep giving it out praying that they come to the knowledge of the truth. It grieves me that they could care less on their eternal destiny and rewards for following Jesus.

Mary was a Jewish peasant woman who was under the Mosaic Law and a sinner and she gave a sacrifice when Jesus was born per Luke 2:22-24 and we see from Leviticus Chapter 12 that the offering was for her sin. The bible is final authority on all matters just like Jesus quoted scripture when tempted of the devil. The pope says otherwise.

Who do you believe? The Bible that was written by the Holy Spirit (2Peter1:21) or the pope?

Who do you follow? God and his Bible or the pope?

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for every Roman Catholic, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Preparing for Eternity (Paperback)
In the 19 years that I was a Roman Catholic, I never opened the Bible--even the one I was required to purchase for confirmation class. Unfortunately, as a result, I did not have the opportunity to compare the doctrines that I was taught in catechism class to what the Bible actually teaches. However, things changed dramatically when, at the age of 19, I began to study the Bible for myself. How surprised, and saddened, I was to learn that many of the doctrines that I was taught as a child do not agree with the Scriptures. That is the reason why a book like "Preparing Catholics for Eternity" is so needful. Though I have no doubt some people will accuse Mike Gendron of being hateful, simply because he challenges people to evaluate what they believe and not take man's word in blind faith, he is nothing of the sort. The author is exemplary as a blend of grace and truth. For anyone (even a non-Catholic) who wants to honestly evaluate their beliefs in light of Scripture, this is a must-read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Would you rather now the truth now, or when you are standing before God on judgement day?, December 6, 2006
This review is from: Preparing for Eternity (Paperback)
I was a Catholic for 28 years, I went through all the classes, all the sacraments, church every Sunday. I always felt like there was something I was missing, but did'nt know what it was. Hey, I was in the "One True Religion." What more could I do?

I had always believed that the Bible was the ultimate authority in the church. It wasn'nt utill I actually sat down and read it for myself that I saw the major differences between what the Catholic Church taught and what the infallable word of God said. I saw the FREE GIFT from God to us was an invitation to spend ETERNITY with him in heaven, you did'nt have to work for it, you just had to accept by FAITH that Jesus did it all on the cross for us. Admittance of your sins and Faith believing is the only thing you need to come to him with. I felt so deprived from the word of God that I can't get enough of it. Just get your self a good Bible, I reccomend the SPIRIT FILLED LIFE BIBLE FOR STUDENTS, because if all you ever did was what the Catholic Church taught you, you will need a good student bible. Dive right in, and you will never look back. Then on judgment day you will have no fear, you know the truth, thy word is truth.

"You are not saved by works, you work because you are saved."

5.0 out of 5 stars Good News For Modern Catholics!, September 15, 2006
This review is from: Preparing for Eternity (Paperback)
We must love Roman Catholics enough to tell them the truth even if they malign and assign all manner of ill to the messenger. Some will become angry, others will respond in faith. Nevertheless, if we truly love them, we will not hold back the truth simply because they are displeased with the message.

It is difficult for Roman Catholics to escape the grip in which they are held because they have been convinced (usually for generations) that their Church controls the gates of heaven. The author loves Catholics and wants them to be saved through faith in Jesus, not trusting in religious liturgy and sacraments.

The intent of this book is to persuade Roman Catholics to personally place their complete trust in Jesus Christ, His word, His grace, His redemption, His perfect sacrifice, His substitutionary atonement, and His finished work, so they can be saved from the power and penalty of sin and become children of God.

To expose the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church that oppose or nullify the true Gospel, so people can know truth from error and not be deceived.

To awaken Christians and evangelical churches to the reality that Catholics who adhere to the official dogmas of the Roman Catholic Church need to hear the gospel and repent from their dead works. (Hebrews 6:1)
