1.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for this one
BE WARNED: First of all, I suggest you notice that this book is published by the author himself and not by any reputable publishing firm. Secondly, notice how all the other reviews of this book look eerily similar to each other and were all issued on the same day. I suspect the author of this book is trying to exaggerate its popularity by writing his own editorials and...

This book is great for first course as well as professional engineers; it is very easy to understand. It has lots of good examples. I will keep this book for a long time. It has so much information about everything, from basic definition of computer to design of microprocessors. More likely, this book presents a comprehensive and detailed study guide for students in electrical/computer engineering, computer science, and working professionals. It has the most up-to-date concepts and technologies portrayed in a simple question and answer format.
This book is a must for anyone who is either looking for a job now or possibly will be in the future, which is just about all of us nowadays. Moreover, this book is an excellent guide for anyone who is nervous about interview questions. It is a no-nonsense reference guide to the kinds of questions to expect during the interview and what the both weak and strong responses are to them.
I especially like the list of questions and answers presented in the book. The author has done a great job in pulling together the elements, which spell success in the quest for employment. This book is concise and to the point, and well worth the price. This book is not only helpful in finding jobs but also can be kept just for the self-confidence and self-examination opportunity it gives you. I can truly attribute this book to helping me prepare for the interviews. I am certain, once I finish reading this book, I will be brimming with confidence for my new career!
I highly recommend this text for every student and professional. I guess buying this book was the best thing I did for my recent job search.

Secondly, notice how all the other reviews of this book look eerily similar to each other and were all issued on the same day. I suspect the author of this book is trying to exaggerate its popularity by writing his own editorials and therefore bolster sales for his own publishing house. That being said...

This book does cover a lot of very useful information but it only glosses over the material and has plenty of errors or omissions. It's too brief to be useful to a real professional or dedicated student and too technical for a beginner. It is most certainly not worth $20 for such a thin paperback.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, October 20, 2004
This review is from: Preparing for an Outstanding Career in Computers (Paperback)
I have been using this book for some time now, and found it very useful. It contains a lot of accurate and technical information. I absolutely disagree with the negative and unfair comment left above. The user above may have tried to upload their comments again and again on the same day thinking that their comment hasn't posted on Amazon.com's website since it did not appear immendiately. The author of this book wrote several books in the past with reputable publishers such as Wiley and Prentice-Hall. He is an auhtority in this field. I found this book very informative, and would rate it with five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A UNIQUE AND EXCELLENT BOOK FOR PROFESSIONALS AND STUDENTS I, October 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Preparing for an Outstanding Career in Computers (Paperback)
I had the opportunity to buy the book and go through it thoroghly. The author has done an outstanding job in covering the complex topics of A to Z on computers in a very simplified manner in a question and answer format. It not only provides answers to over 300 questions, but also includes adequate technical details offering tremendous knowledge to electrical/computer engineers and computer scientists.
Being in industry for several years, I found this book very useful as a quick reference guide. It will definitely help people for preparing for job interviews. I like the way the author covered RISC vs.CISC, VHDL vs. VERILOG, hardwired control vs. microprogramming,L1/L2 cache, Intel and Motorola microprocessors along with basics of computers such as digital logic design in a question and answer format. I have never come accross an excellent book like this. I like the author's pointing out certain certain special features of microprocessors such as 1. What is the unique feature of Powerpc? 2. Which 16-bit microprocessor has on-cip clock circits? 3. what are the basic differences between VHDL and Verilog? etc. etc,....
The price is just right. I am sure this book will help people with tremendous knowledge and at the same time help them finding jobs in computers.

By A Customer
This review is from: Preparing for an Outstanding Career in Computers (Paperback)
This book contains a to z of many important topics on computers in a question and answer format. Various complex topics were presented in a very simplified manner. I bought the book recently and had the opportunity of going through it thoroghly. The author has done an excellent job. I like the way the author presented Intel and Motorola microprocessors, RISC vs. CISC, hardwired vs. microprogramming, VHDL vs. Verilog, and several other important topics. I have never come accross a book like this which provides questions and answers along with adequate explanations to many of them. I especially liked the types of questions such as the following:
1. Name a 16-bit microprocessor that has on-chip clock circuits. 2. What is the unique feature of Powerpc? 3. What is L1/L2 cache? 4. Name a 32-bit microprocessor that does not have on-chip cache. 5. How does a microprocessor obtain the first instruction to be executed? etc. etc. etc. ........
The book is worth the price. There is no doubt in my mind that this book will provide tremendous knowledge to computer professionals and students. As an experienced professional in the computer field for several years, I am sure this book will definitely help computer scientists and engineers in preparing for job interviews. I strongly recommend this book. It's a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT BOOK FOR ELECTRICAL/COMPUTER ENGNRS/ SCIENTISTS, October 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Preparing for an Outstanding Career in Computers (Paperback)
I have been designing and implementing systems using microprocessors for a long time in computer industries. This is an excellent book which can be used as a quick study guide for finding answers to many vital computer topics such as basic definitions, RISC and CISC, VHDL and Verilog, use of C/C++ vs. assembly and many other important hardware and software issues. The presentation of concepts associated with microprocessor-based system design is outstanding!
Most career-oriented books are non-technical. This particular book is technical with adequate details presented in a simple question and answer format. I enjoyed reading Dr. Rafiquzzaman's other books in the past. This is another one I really did enjoy! This book includes a lot of interesting materials that are presented in a very systematic and simplified manner in approximately 200 pages. Everything you want to know about computer hardware and software but afraid to ask is in this book!
There is no doubt in my mind that this book should help especially electrical/computer engineers/computer scientists also for preparing for job interviews. Go for it! You will not regret!
