This review is from: Preparing for Success : Meeting the Language and Learning Needs of Young Children from Poverty Homes (Paperback)
Dr. Weiner's book is truly a labor of love for educators of children in poverty homes. She begins by clearly spelling out the sad facts of how the educational system for these young children has failed them. Then, sharing with us her many years of research and successful hands-on experience, she provides the readers specific, practical information on what they can do to turn their classrooms, learning environment and their students into successes.

My favorite chapter, called "What Can I Do About This?" gives real life examples of successful classsroom interactions with children. After reading this, educators have a clear sequence of actions to start making a difference in their students lives today.

To make it even simpler, Dr. Weiner provides us a model curriculum, called CurricuLanguage. This is also very clearly presented and ready for immediate use in the classroom.

Of her book, Dr. Weiner encourages us to "read, enjoy, reflect and act - ideally in that sequence." After reading her book, there is no reason left not to do just that.
