High Tech For Low Cost,
By
This review is from: Compaq Presario SR5350F Desktop PC (Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 360 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) (Electronics)
Everything you have read about the internal technology of this pc is correct and terrific. The low cost price for solid high technology. The Intel Duel Core is fast and friendly. The only downside to this is the keyboard and mouse are basic, but it's the tower that is supreme. So, I have to get a keyboard and mouse that is a little more updated. It's worth purchasing this gem of a pc. Compaq is a name you can trust.

Had very litttle trouble in setting up and operating the new computer. It is far faster than my previous system and it was fairly easy to transfer all my old programs from the old computer to the new one.The only problem encountered was that I needed a new set of speakers to operate with this computer.

Has no recover CD - underpowered for daily use,
By
This review is from: HP Compaq Presario SR5310F (Personal Computers)
I bought this computer a year ago. I had the power supply swapped out for a 500w one (it came with a puny 250w which won't run most games). I also changed out the video card and added a sound card. With these additions I've had a fairly decent PC. I still experience crashes occasionally, mostly having to do with the HP printer's software as apparently it's not 100% friendly with XP SP3.
My biggest complaints about this system are found in the software and in the CD drive. The CD drive burns very slow compared to the standard off-the-shelf drive and has a documented history of suddenly dying / refusing to burn CDs / failing in general. I've experienced this failure several times just burning standard archival CDs (not even DVDs). Now it refuses to recognize DVDs for playing. This machine has NO recovery software whatsoever so if something goes wrong you're stuck having to reformat it from scratch. This is complicated by the fact that there is no place online to go to download the necessary drivers and firmware for your machine: You have to either know what you have and dig every driver up individually or you're going to have to pay for a driver update service to get your machine working again. I'll be swapping the CD drive out for a *real* one soon. As much hardware and software as I've had to replace to get this machine up to snuff just for daily use... I could have built a better machine from scratch. Straight off the shelf it's a sub-par machine that needs a lot of help just to make it usable. With upgrades it's a fairly stable system. The interior's roomy with expansion slots for additional components. The RAM slots are odd... The computer came with 1GB of RAM installed in the form of a single stick of RAM and can a total of 2GB but has 4 RAM slots total. The number of slots versus how much RAM it will take seems a little disproportionate. They could have trimmed 1 or 2 of the additional slots from the motherboard and had room for other PCIE slots or something more useful. As it is, the additional slots are just eating up space. Not the worst computer I've bought but definitely not the best.

Terrible Co...misleading computer,
This review is from: Compaq Presario SR5310F Desktop PC (Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) (Electronics)
After one day of trying to get the HP tech to make a combo tv/monitor work, another HP senior tech suggested a graphics card, and specifically gave the model number. Card solves problem, but now draws more than the power supply is rated for, and HP will not cover the costs of a new power supply.
I would advise all potential buyers to stay away from HP/Compaq...I now understand why they are at the bottom of the "satisfaction scale" per Consumers Reports...terrible way to run a company

I bought this computer from Circuit City. Had it two weeks and the network card went bad. I'm a computer tech, so I'm thinking "ok, they'll send me a new card and I'll put it in myself." But no....they want me to send them the entire unit!! I can't believe I've only had this two weeks and now I am going to be without a computer for another two weeks at least. Ridiculous!

I'm quite happy with the 5350F. As noted by another reviewer, the keyboard is not to my liking, so I'm using my old one. But gee, 2G of memory for under $500? hard to beat. It does make a bit more noise than my last Presario.
