5.0 out of 5 stars Just How Funny Your Kids Really Are, June 7, 2001

This review is from: Preschool Confidential (Hardcover)
My husband and I are reading this book out loud to each other each night after we tuck our kids in bed. We usually end up laughing so hard we almost fall off of the couch. It's good medicine, that book. Sandi takes situations that you may never have thought of as being funny and opens your eyes to just how hilarious it all really is. The fact that she's been through the preschool stage three times herself gives her vast experience to draw from and write about.

Mostly, I feel like I am reading a comic strip about our own family life because the things she describes are the very things we experience over and over again and never even thought to ask anybody about. It does wonders for my attitude.

I think anyone who is in the process of raising a preschooler NEEDS to read this book. It's like the glass of wine at the end of the day, and perspective for the days to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, June 19, 2002

What a funny funny look at being the mother of a three year old. She has done a great job capturing the phases and stages that leark in dark corners just when you think the terrible twos are over! Although I think Shelton is a little down on Motherhood sometimes the book is non-the-less a great read. Easy to pick up and put down, with some out loud laughing involved. It would make a great gift for the three year old birthday boy or girl's mom!

5.0 out of 5 stars You don't even need your own kids to love this book!, June 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Preschool Confidential (Hardcover)
This book entertained me non-stop through an 800-mile train-and-bus trip, and I don't even have children. I really couldn't put it down. It's as funny as Please Don't Eat the Daisies, and as engagingly written. Someone should make a TV series from it, or a movie. This one's a winner.

By A Customer
This review is from: Preschool Confidential (Hardcover)
What a delightful book! Funny takes on all of the parenting a preschooler traumas - makes you laugh, but makes you think, too. I wish I had a Mom like Sandi....and I hope all Mom's take a look at the crazies of their lives through Sandi's warm, hilarious, sparkling eyes. A GREAT book to give to pre-school parents or teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, the wait is over!, May 22, 2001

Does this woman have in-sight into my family, I often wonder as I read her books? She tells it like it is and what it is is honest and funny. I have been waiting since her last book with anticipation. This is a laugh-out-loud-on-every-page book! Well, worth the wait. Thank You Ms. Shelton for having the courage to write about so difficult a topic with wisom, honesty, heart and humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars What you can REALLY expect in the preschool years!, May 16, 2001

This book is laugh out loud funny! Unlike other books about our preschool aged children that give us milestones for development and tell us what children can and should be doing, PRESCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL illustrates what most children in this age group are actually doing (like naming their toothbrushes, putting forks in our briefcases, and wearing the McDonald's happy meal bucket as a hat). Sandi Kahn Shelton tells us what one can really expect from a preschooler and does so in such a humorous yet honest way with examples from her own life and the lives of real parents of real children. In addition, Ms. Shelton, ever sensitive to the realities of parents of preschool aged children, has organized the book in segments that are short and readable in small pockets of time. As good a stress reliever as a glass of wine at the end of a busy day, the anectdotes in this book are an elixir of relief. This is a super book for any parent, grandparent, or person who wants to know the excitement and challenge of the preschool aged child. For parents, the true stories in this book let you know that your child is not the only one who wants to take the waffle iron for show and tell or to entertain the possibility of eating rocks for supper. PRESCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL assures you once and for all, that you are not alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!!!!!, January 21, 2010
This review is from: Preschool Confidential (Hardcover)
Laughed in some places until I cried....it was such a true and funny take on parenting little tyrants. Both the joys and the frustrations. It really helped me look at ages 2-5 with more of a sense of humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Guide to the Pre-School Set, November 15, 2009

I recently read this book in anticipation of giving it to my nephew and his wife, who are in their mid-thirties expecting their first child! I LOVED it! It was a splendid trip down memory lane for my own adult daughter's childhood, and I simply howled throughout the whole book. Sandi's comments are dead on accurate with just the right dash or dollop of humor, which is a must have as we raise children and get down to the nitty gritty of the crazy yet brilliant things our offspring do. This book is a must have along with Spock and Brazelton, and the one that will help you know you are perfectly normal and you and your kids will survive!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comforting and funny to any mom, March 19, 2004
By
This review is from: Preschool Confidential (Hardcover)
What a funny read...Very well written and witty. Highly recommended from a mom who RARELY reads parenting books because they seem so boring.... This one is original, supportive and well worth the time. You'll feel a little less crazy, neurotic and guilty as a parent after you read this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most fun (and wise) parenting book I've ever read!, May 7, 2001
This review is from: Preschool Confidential (Hardcover)
I've been reading and benefitting from the wise writings of Sandi Kahn Shelton for a long time. In Preschool Confidential, Sandi presents a close-up view of the other wonder years: I wonder what's happening here? I wonder why she's having a tantrum? I wonder what I SHOULD DO NOW?! She's a mom who knows how to make other moms laugh at what can often make us cry as well. I read Preschool Confidential with the sneaking suspicion that Sandi could read my mind. She seems to know instinctively what we all feel about the toddler years. And she brings out the very best part: the joy, the discovery, the sheer awesome nature of parenting and all that comes with it. This book is a must for anyone entering the territory of the terrible/terrific twos.
