Book Description

August 7, 2012

When preschool teacher Leslie McCollom created the Preschool Gems Twitter feed, it was because precious jewels were slipping through her fingers every day. Jewels like, "My mom lived in the 90's," “I'm feeling poisonous, baby kitty,” and “OK, but I'm still a dragon.”

Although she swore she’d remember these gems forever, in five minutes they would vanish, never to be heard by human ears again. So she became a covert anthropologist in the underground world of children, and started carefully cataloging them, and has been gracing the Twitterverse with her findings ever since—such as:

“When I went to the chainsaw store I saw someone with REAL bubble gum.”

“There's a wolf in my tummy and a porcupine in my bum.”

"I don't care about time outs. I only care about my life."

"Who are me?”

“I love David Bowie. I’m going to marry David Bowie.”

Preschool Gems is a collection of the most bizarre, hilarious, jaw-dropping things overheard at Leslie’s school. By turns sweet, sinister, and naively sincere, these treasures prove that kids are really just miniature people who are weirder and a lot less inhibited than their adult counterparts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovingly Curated September 6, 2012
By K. Mac
Format:Paperback
This book is a collection of lovingly curated moments from childhood. It explores that magic moment in life in which all things are possible, and all questions are valid. "Can I go to the bathroom" and "Is there a ghost from space" are both equally valid questions to the children of this book.

The author has captured these children in the dawn of their lives, in that beautiful, fragile moment where magic still lives in the hearts of children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful book September 7, 2012
By Lorie
Format:Paperback
I read this book the first time in one sitting, but I keep picking it up to read fun little snippets like "There's a bear over there in the bushes. It sells me things." Each gem is a little, tiny vacation from adulthood. I will read this book over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars shinier than a diamond and a fraction of the price September 5, 2012
By patrick
Format:Paperback
We all know that kids say hilarious things. We all love the bizarre yet honest perspective children bring to the world. But never before have so many absurd, profound, confusing, hilarious, frightening, insane, mysterious, adorable, and wise one-liners been available in one nifty, pocket-sized book. You need this book. What better way to spend a 20 minute bus ride than by filling your brain with such brilliant images as "a dream tower that's made out of pee" or startling honesty like "I love everything in the world. Even fake stuff." Open to a random page, and stumble upon genius like "People are hamburgers in America!" This book will teach you everything you never needed to know and so much more.
