Preschool for Parents is a must-have guide for finding and selecting a great, safe preschool and giving your child the best opportunity to learn, play and grow. Based on more than three decades of professional experience and the most up-to-date research, this book presents a simple truth: you do not have to choose between academic learning and enjoyable play experiences for your child. In fact, rich play experiences in preschool can actually be the best way for your child to develop the social, emotional, physical and academic skills that are so crucial for success in school and life.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

The challenge of selecting a preschool for your child is exciting, confusing and scary all at once. You probably have several alternatives from which to choose, and you may be getting conflicting advice about each of them. The purpose of this book is to give you the information you need to select the right preschool program for your child. While many good books are already available that help you understand different teaching philosophies, compare full-day and part-day options, explain costs, describe the screening process, and provide overviews of the many choices available, we start with a simple truth that organizes this book and all the suggestions we make: the best preschool teaching practices make the most of children's natural inclination to play. Almost all current research on young children clearly indicates that when children play, they learn - and they learn social, emotional and physical skills as well as academics. Our view that a quality preschool program is one that promotes learning through rich play experiences is based on that research.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most informative, helpful book on selecting a preschool., September 18, 1998

This review is from: Preschool for Parents: What Every Parent Needs to Know about Preschool (Paperback)
I am so glade I found your book. It was so informative and a big help! I am the mother of a preschooler and I have interviewed over thirty in my area just to find the right one (still looking). With some of the things that I have witnessed on my vists I am constantly amazed that some of these schools have one child in their custody let alone thirty or more. Your book made me stronger to continue my search and not settle like other parents do. I know I will find the right school and your book will help me to do so.
