The list author says: "After looking at many different homeschool options for my children for preschool and kindergarten, I decided to use a combination of some literature programs. There are some books from Sonlight and Five in a Row along with other great picture books I have found. I have also included some science and fine motor activities, such as Kumon. Many of the books are treasuries, since you get the most for your money from them. Amazon limits these list to 40 items, so I suggest additional books in my comments."
"This is the 2004 edition because it has almost 100 more pages than the 2007 edition. You can still get this through the amazon marketplace or elsewhere. Also look for Animal Tales and Sleepytime Tales, which also have 2004 editions with more stories than the 2007."
"charming stories about a preschooler and his little sister. There is a book called The Shirley Hughes Collection which is a big 350 page treasury of Alfie and Dogger and many many more stories by Shirley Hughes. It is available through the marketplace and worth the money, in my opinion."
"cute illustrations, some of the endings are different to be more gentle, such as the gingerbread boy getting away, which takes away from the moral of the story. But we also read other versions so this doesn't bother us much. She also has a nice Mother Goose Bood and CD."
"There are many great unconditional love books you can add to your curriculum. We read at least one almost every day. It is so important to make sure your little ones know you love them no matter what."
"This book has few words, but it is a great bedtime read! I resisted buying this for a while, because I thought with no words it wasn't worth it. But I was wrong, it is wonderful. The pictures tell the story and my preschooler can "read" it to me."
"This book is filled with wonderful read aloud poems, songs, and stories as well as some science, history and art. My preschooler loves this and we read it to her while she is in the bath. She always says, "Let's read some poems"."
"This is a wonderful read aloud about a gentle bear who sleeps through a storm while his forest friends have a party around him. All the Bear series books are nice. My other favorite is Bear Feels Sick. Another great one from Karma is Moose Tracks, very cute story, great rhyming."
"There are several of the books by P.K. Hallinan, including Let's Be Honest, Let's Be Polite, Let's Be Kind, Let's Be Helpful, Let's Be Thankful, Let's Share and Let's Be Happy. Cute little rhyming stories with nice illustrations."
"This is a great book about scrapes and bruises that our little ones will get during their childhood. Introduces children to some biology and first aid techniques. As a nurse, I love it. My preschooler loves it as well. There is a companion book about illness called All Better Now by the same author that is also great."
"This series from Kumon really helps young preschoolers with their fine motor skills. The series includes Let's Cut Paper, Let's Fold, Let's Sticker & Paste, and Let's Color. There are additional books in the series for more practice called More Let's Cut Paper, etc. From here you can move on to Tracing, Cutting, Pasting, Coloring, etc."
