LISTENING TO PRESCRIPTION FOR THE BLUES IMMEDIATLEY CURES YOU BY TOUCHING YOUR SOUL AND LETTING YOU KNOW THAT A SMALL HANDFUL OF REAL BLUESMEN DO STILL EXIST , HOLDING THE LINE OF EMOTION IN THEIR MUSIC THAT WOULD MAKE THEIR FOREFATHERS PROUD KNOWING THAT MUSICIANS LIKE BARRELHOUSE CHUCK AND IRWIN HELFER CARRY ON A STYLE OF BLUES PIANO THAT ONLY THE GREATS REALLY ACCOMPLISHED! IM SURE THAT SUNNYLAND,SPANN,LITTLE BROTHER AND LEROY CARR ARE ALL HANGIN OUT AND SMILING EAR TO EAR WHENEVER THIS DISC IS PLAYED! THANK YOU FOR THIS " PRESCRIPTION FOR THE BLUES " I NOW FEEL CURED! 5.0 out of 5 stars The Best In Chicago Blues Piano, February 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Prescription For The Blues (Audio CD)
This is a great collection of pure Chicago blues piano in the style of legends such as Sunnyland Slim and Otis Spann. If you've only been exposed to guitar heavy modern blues, this record offers an opportunity to learn about an often overlooked traditional style. "Prescription For The Blues" offers a wide range of moods, from soulful slow blues to high energy boogie. The unadorned organic quality of this recording will make you feel like you're sitting right next to the piano. Barrelhouse Chuck is one of a few masters of a fading art. As the blues becomes more and more dominated by acts that are long on bombast and short on finesse, this record reminds us just how powerful the blues can be when performed with a more subtle touch. A must have for all blues lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The real thing, February 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Prescription For The Blues (Audio CD)
Barrelhouse chuck has captured the essence of what blues is supposed to be. When he plays, you can hear Sunnyland Slim, Little Brother Montgomery, Leroy Carr and other influences of the great blues piano masters. Erwin Helfer, another great Chicago blues pianist, also plays on some of the tracks. If you want to hear the grease, the pain and joy of what blues is about, then you had better get this CD, you won't be disapponted.

The sound of his playing and singing is real and from the heart. Old time blues piano. Chuck tells you a story with his tunes and he remembers all his teachers! I love this cd very much. Buy it!
