Book Description

1931282951 978-1931282956 June 20, 2006
Because of the unique needs of children with ASD, it is important to pay special attention to the details of their experience in the medical environment. Designed to help make the medical experience easier for all involved, this book presents information on ASD, the varying developmental levels, interventions, and assessments that medical staff, parents, educators, and key service providers can use to more effectively interact with and support children with ASD while in the medical setting. The information and techniques presented in "Prescription for Success" can be used by doctors, nurses, medical technicians, residents, interns, and even administrative staff to support children with ASD and their families in what can otherwise be trying circumstances. A CD at the back of the book includes forms and worksheets that can be printed and duplicated.

This review is from: Prescription for Success: Supporting Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Medical Environment (Paperback)
Well finally we have a book that helps parents, school nurses, and doctors to treat children with autism when they need to go to doctor's office or hospital! This book comes with a description and quick summaries of what is Autism and Asperger Syndrome and their needs. It also comes with MANY activities and templates (including CD room) for working with doctors and child at the same time. For the child for example, it has many games (Bingo, crosswords, social stories...) and pictograms to prepare him for the things that he will see, and will happen in the doctor's office, hospital, dentist (i.e. medicine cup, Anesthesia mask, reflex hammer, x-ray...) . For doctors, it contains information charts to exchange with the family, before the meeting, about things that he/she should know about the child (sensory characteristics, food preferences, stressors...), and about what families need to know, to prepare their child, before they are in the doctor's office or hospital (like temperature measurement, blood pressure, ...). I think it is an excellent resource!
