Editorial Reviews

Review

"How can we sum up this valuable work? Rather than being a manual, it is more a guide for a therapist who wishes to incorporate the best that research has to offer with the flexibility and creativity that practitioners see as vital to success. As such, it is also a good example of the local clinical scientist in action, and I applaud its inentions and eagerly await further updates on this project."--Psychotherapy Research

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful diagnosis in the face of a treament, November 27, 2000
This review is from: Prescriptive Psychotherapy: A Practical Guide to Systematic Treatment Selection (Hardcover)
What kind of things a therapist should recognize, to succesfully guide his patient toward a change? Larry Beutler and his colleagues show a clear evidence in that key point for clinical treatments. Functional impairment, level of resistance, coping style and level of distress seem to be important clues to match a particular patient, to a particular treatment. I think these results will have great importance for clinical practice, health care organizations work, and for those who has found that DSM IV, sometimes offers a little bit narrow view to prescribe an specific treatment to a particular person. I strongly recommend this book, because it can be one of the most important in the history of our field
