5.0 out of 5 stars Good books all around - great ones, only a few.
And this is a GREAT book! My copy is probably more marked up, underlined, and dog-eared than my Bible I've had since second grade! I've recommended this novel to all my friends and family who will listen; several finally gave in and enjoyed it. NOTE: It will be easier to read for those of faith, who believe God can and does talk to us in modern times. But the story...

2.0 out of 5 stars A book of its time
The Presence by T Davis Bunn is a Christian novel of its time. Full of the "us verses them" mentality of the 1990s, the "Christian man takes on evil and triumphs but pays a price" genra was full of this kind of story.

Two things really stuck out for me in this book. One, no one questioned TJ's claim that the Holy Spirit was speaking to and through him...

But the story is a good one for everyone - a story of morals, standing for what you believe in, and not giving up . . . despite all the World may throw at us.

T.J. Case sacrificed his political career when he crossed the party line and backed a Republican friend for his U.S. Congress race. When he felt he had lost everything, God gave him a vision to go to Washington. He went thinking he was to work with the administration in the Education arena. What actually happened was the explosion of support for a daily Bible Study in the White House - which ultimately leads to a major change for many, many of the nation's leaders.

These few words cannot begin to explain the amazing story found in this book. Every time I read this book, I have to pause now and then to get the tears outta my eyes (I hate crying, but this is worth it). Racial barriers are broken down, and love for your fellow man begins to grow. Caring for the poor and homeless is another heart-warming side story.

I'm no longer interested in politics, although I am a Gov't Attorney. And books like this give me some hope that I can make a difference, and that there are people out there who care about issues as much as I do. Hope you enjoy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Christian fiction at it's apex ., December 1, 1998
By A Customer
The Presence is probably the best peice of contemporary Christian literature I have ever read. It is theologically sound and politically current. It's also rare to see a writer with a fundamentalist point of view include african americans as the leading characters. As the author's first piece of work, it remains his best. Fundamentally it is the story of two men who go from North Carolina to Washington, D.C. - one in the will of God and one aspiring young politician. What makes this book extraordinary is the careful and interesting characters . The hero is filled with doubts and needs the help of his wife and newly formed "best friend" to accomplish God's purposes. It presents the picture of a three dimentional man who is supported and helped to become a great man. This book is a MUST for any reader of christian literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Holy Spirit takes Washington D.C. by storm!, February 28, 1998
What can happen when the Holy Spirit totally takes over the life of just one Washington politician? T. Davis Bunn gives us a glimpse of the awesome ability of God to storm the toughest strongholds when The Presence invades the nation's capitol. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Presence, April 9, 2003

I have read most of T. Davis Bunn's books, as well as many, many other Christian books. This is my hands-down favorite! It speaks to today, it speaks to my heart and it jives with my spirit. I read it right after it was published and have read it probably 5-6 times since...it never fails to lift me, humble me, and make me cry! If you like Christian fiction, this is a MUST-READ (over and over again).

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes a stand against the seeds of corruption in the White House., June 10, 2011
This review is from: The Presence (TJ Case Series #1) (Paperback)
This hold over from the 90s still holds its own today.
T.J. Case, is a politician who crosses the party line and backs a Republican friend in an election. As the rest of the story unfolds he sacrifices all for integrity and takes a stand against the seeds of corruption in the White House. It takes faith with a capital "F" to tackle that challenge!

You can never go wrong with Mr. Bunn's work his personal and professional backgrounds add to his stories every time. This novel leaves you praying that every politician in D. C. would read it too.

The author says it best: "The novels I've had published by Bethany House are the direction I hope my future writing will take--captivating stories of intrigue, drama and faith, with compelling characters in an enjoyable contemporary fictional setting," says Bunn. "The emotional bonding that occurs with the reader in good fiction often gives the Christian message more direct meaning in the reader's life."

5.0 out of 5 stars What Could Happen, February 19, 2011
This was one of my favorites of T Davis Bunn. This could happen if more of God's people would let the Holy Spirit rule in their lives. America has been blessed by God but we have pushed God out of our lives. We have set ourselves up for a fall.
It's not too late but we will have to let go of the politically correct society that we live in today.
If you liked this book you will also like "The Centurion's Wife, The Hidden Flame and the Damascus Way."

I did enjoy this book, but it is explicitly Christian and may not appeal to everyone. Feel like Bunn knows how Washington works, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars an early Bunn...one of his best, December 24, 2009
This review is from: The Presence (TJ Case Series #1) (Paperback)
This is an amazing book...has depth of character, has Godly principles exemplified, and speaks the truth. Bunn shares the truth in a manner that's gripping and convicting, and makes me want to be like the godly characters. That always encourages me. However, I must say that this is one of his better books...and an early one at that. The more recent books like "gold of kings" just are poor...they have no principle, and money is the focus. It seems that Bunn started out strong speaking godly principles and has basically gone down the tubes...in terms of any spiritual content that has meat to it, that makes you THINK.
