Oh those atrocious accents!!,

This review is from: Present Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
Aunnie fled from Atlanta to Seattle to escape an abusive ex-husband. She is befriended by a Caribbean woman (or should I say woo-mon) who rents her an apartment in a building owned by James, a carpenter/cartoonist with no intention of ever settling down. Soon she and James give in to their obvious sexual tension and fall in love while he teaches her self-defense. But her abusive ex, Wesley has tracked her down and is ready to teach his errant ex a lesson. Very rarely does a Susan Andersen novel disappoint. In fact, "Present Danger" is one of her earlier romantic suspense novels and despite its one-dimensional villain, it has an excellent premise with plenty of intrigue, great dialogue, gripping suspense, and passionate romance. There's just one problem... two really - the annoying southern and Caribbean accents. They are so distracting that it takes twice as long to read. And they are not that accurate - more like a caricature. A couple of Andersen's earlier suspense novels share this annoying trait.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Present Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked the book, but I was unaware that this was a reprint. I found I already owned the book, so that was disappointing. The service from Amazon was, as always, excellent, but I didn't have any idea that this was a reprint.

I have the original copy of this book, it is one of my favorite's by Susan Andersen. Aunie is on the run from her psycho ex-husband, she moves into an apartment and meets James. Things heat up! I really loved both the characters, I loved how he taught her to defend herself, and of course it had a really sweet ending.

old book-new cover,
This review is from: Present Danger (Mass Market Paperback)
This book came out some years ago. Having said that, it is really a well-written book with great characters. Aunie is an abused wife who is forced to move far away from her obsessive, demented ex- husband. While looking for an apartment to lease she finds a charming old building with a "For Rent" sign and decides to apply. This leads her to meet and become involved with a number of people, including James Ryder who owns the building. I loved the way the author developed the rich interaction among the characters. You become involved in lives. The stalking of Aunie by her former husband is chilling. This just isn't a girl meet boy type of book although there certainly is romance. If you buy this book I guarantee you'll not be able to put it down until it's finished.
