I've been a fan of T. Graham Brown for quite a few years now. T. Graham, started out as a country singer, and that's how most people think of him, but in my opinion, he developed into more of an r&b singer, much like Delbert McClinton. This is one of his best albums ever.
The album starts out with one of the best tracks, "Turn, Turn,Turn". I grew up in a time when teachers still read Bible verses every morning, and this song was created from my favorite verse, my teacher used to read, before The Bible was removed from schools in the early 60s. Originally put to music by folk legend Pete Seeger, The Byrds made it a hit in the 60s, and T. Graham does it great justice. He also does a great job on his upbeat version of "Just A Closer Walk With Thee", the only hymn on this cd. Another highlight of the cd, and maybe my favorite, is the beautiful title song "The Present". "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift for you and me. That's why they call it the present". Another of my favorites(I have a few on this cd)is "Stand Up For Love", a rockin' plea to the children of today who will be in control of the world of tomorrow, to fill their hearts with love for their fellow humans. It's also a plea to parents to lead by example and teach their children hate and fighting are wrong. "We've got to fill our hearts with peace, love and understanding". Many of the tracks are covers of classics. My favorites of these are Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine of My Life", Carole King's "You've Got A Friend" and "Put A Little Love In Your Heart" the hit by Jackie DeShannon, who also co-wrote the song with her brother. In my opinion, every song on this cd is good. If you like uplifting, inspirational music which is spiritual, but not overtly religious, this is one you will enjoy. T. Graham Brown has a great voice, and sings with a lot of heart and soul. I've seen him in concert several times. If you ever get the chance, I suggest you see him live.

T. Graham Brown, The Present,

A great "listening" CD. Each song is something to bring back memories. I can definitely detect the more mature voice in this CD as compared to You Can't Take It With You and The Best Of T. Graham Brown. His voice is distinctive and goes from soul and smooth to gutsy and brash. Even though many of the songs on this CD have been around for many years, it is great to hear them again in a totally different style. One thing I found quite interesting was that I played the CD for a friend and she actually had tears. She said she definitely liked it and that it touched her deeply. Oops! Don't get excited, this is not a sad commentary of a great CD. It just so happens that is one lady's reaction.
I definitely recommend you consider this one! Since I teach line dancing I am always looking for new music. I have used songs from each of the three of his CDs that I now have. Yes, even the hymns have a great beat.

Wow, I love this T. Grahm Brown. His voice just sounds calmer and it is nice to listen to.
