Solid album for getting your game on,
By OkeyPlus (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Presents 2K7: Tracks (Audio CD)
This album caught me by surprise. I'm a big fan of Handsome Boy Modeling School, and Dan's other work, and this CD was a step in an unexpected direction, to say the least. It's true that not every track here is golden: some are just boring. But there are a few tracks that make this CD worth buying, and are quickly becoming some of my favorite songs.
First off, Hieroglyphics on Don't Hate The Player is an incredibly infectious track. The lazy, arrogant flow opening up that track will have you hooked. Lupe Fiasco and Evidence on Catch Me is a good, catchy track. It gets a bit old and immature, but hey, this is all about a game, right? It's meant to be playful, and if you're taking it too seriously, you need to chill out. Chali 2na on Anchor Man is a freaking great song. If you're a fan of Jurassic 5, this really hits the spot. Chali is at the top of his game, and drives a solid flow while keeping it playful (like the reference to The Great David Hasselhoff). There are some other worthy songs on this CD. It might not be a legendary record like HBMS or Gorillaz, but for Dan fans it's worth the money and worth listening to.

Where's our version with the real vocal tracks?,
By Suburban Brujo (Jacksonville, FL USA) - See all my reviews

It's bad enough the songs have to be edited for the video game, there's no reason we couldn't have an "Explicit Lyrics" version of this, which in addition to being a soundtrack could have been a good DtA solo disc. Everything good here is undermined by distracting drops in the vocals. There are still some albums out there that don't earn the "PA" sticker so anything cut up like this should be clearly labelled "CLEAN" even if it's the only version released.

Gotta love Dan The Automator. Just an excellent producer.
But the problem with working with so many different rappers is that the album as a whole doesn't have depth. Same is true for any rappers... if their album has 12 tracks produced by 12 different producers, the album comes off flat. There are a couple of bangers on this... the E-40 song especially.
