4.0 out of 5 stars Dub sums it up, June 3, 2003

This is a selection of dub tracks that Richard Dorfmeister (the D in K&D sessions) played between 92 - present. The compilation starts of with a very dubbie track, the next 5 trax can probably be defined as dub with strong reggae influences, those tracks have more vocals as well. Then it just moves to great dub period. I found this CD brilliant. It basically takes you back to the roots of the entire chill/lounge music movement and each selection is a jewel. Just sit back, chill, push play and listen to one of the world'sbetter DJs mixing great dub.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Return of Richard Dorfmeister, June 16, 2003
By
Deranged Reader (Woodside, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Presents a Different Drummer Selection (Audio CD)
I'm a Dorfmeister junkie. The K&D Sessions is the best release I've heard in ten years, and Suzuki follows close behind. (I also think the G-Stone book rocks--would someone please tell me how to get Walkner-Moestl's disc?) I haven't liked the more recent Dorfmeister releases as much--Delhi 9 has a few great songs, but isn't as much a total blowout; and the remixes of Honey were more of a curio item than a full-fledged effort. Still, I buy just about anything with Mr. Dorfmeister's name on it, and have been seldom let down. I'm not sure exactly what he did to these songs, but they're just a touch more delicious than, say, the Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions series, on which he has been known to make an appearance. (His track on #4 is sooo good.) On this CD, I like #'s 3, 12, and some others in the middle, but the overall quality is very high. If you've been anxious about whether Mr. D. still has the stuff, rest assured. This is a very good time.

5.0 out of 5 stars A reputation confirmed..., January 9, 2005
This review is from: Presents a Different Drummer Selection (Audio CD)
Widely regarded as one of the best DJ's around, Richard Dorfmeister's mix of tracks from the "Different Drummer" reggae/dub record label has a lot to live up to. But, we are indeed in the hands of a master here. Someone who understands how to select outstanding music, how to add to it and how to sequence it all, seamlessly, into an integrated whole. The end result? An hour of sublime club grooves that, like all great mixes, moves effortlessly from track to track and remains interesting and exciting throughout. Once past their cool outer coating, the deeply atmospheric back-beats, intricate, multi-layered rhythms and wonderful melodic hooks that underpin every track start to take hold and... the more you listen, the better it gets. Hypnotically good, "A Different Drummer Selection" fully confirms his already outstanding reputation for creative mixing and, on the way, delivers one of the best reggae/dub albums you're likely to hear.
