A tight funky disco mix with lots of ego, May 19, 2003
This review is from: Presents: Disco Heat (Audio CD)
I can imagine that DJ's have become a bit afraid to spin dance classics like 'Relight My Fire', 'Hot Shot' or 'I will survive' because you, as the dancing party, immediately zapp back to visions of excruciating office parties where everybody is way too unhappy and wound up to dance anyway. We've heard these songs so often that they're so inflated that their impact is deflated - a geriatric smell wafts from these songs. Kenny Dope avoids all this, stays true to his name and delivers a dope package of not too well known dance classics, that will make your head bob, feet tap, arms swing, brow sweat , hair raise, and skin glow. Although you probably will recognize some songs because they're sampled a lot in neo disco house songs, they sound fresh(er) in their classic form. As a wanna be DJ I liked unmixed disc 2 and 3 more than mixed version 1, because Dope crunches the songs in such an extremely short form that I got a mad disco medley sensation and heartburn, especially because Dope insists on constantly reminding us who's actually doing the daft mixing here: KENNNNYYYY DOOOOOOPE (repeat ad nauseum).
I mean: I KNOW you did it Kenny, I bought your CD man! Time for some ego-trimming.
I recommend these 3 CD's to:
1. Anybody who's in love with classic disco and wants to avoid the cliches.
2. The ones who want to impress other people with their avant garde taste in dance music and their ability to look just a little bit further.
3. All the people who have listened one time too much to Dimitri from Paris' Night at the Playboy Mansion.
Thanks for your attention. Hope I've helped you a bit.
Regards,
Dirk J. Klanker

Good range of tunes., October 5, 2003
This review is from: Presents: Disco Heat (Audio CD)
Note I didn't say great. If you're new to disco, then maybe this isn't the one to get first up. If you're already a fan, then you should enjoy this.
I liked the 3 CD format - it''s interesting to hear how Kenny cut up the tracks on the mix cd. Then you can to the other cds with the origonal tracks to hear them in their entirety. This represents pretty good value for money all up.
