5.0 out of 5 stars The Dopest beats heard in a long while., July 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Presents Dust Static & Plastic (Audio CD)
This album is definately true to the underground hip-hop scene. The production is excellent but the themes remain true to the streets. I consider it a must have for any wax-collecter be they DJ or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of wax..., May 7, 2006
This review is from: Presents Dust Static & Plastic (Audio CD)
...dug this out of a discount record bin, and was well pleased with it. Comes as a double album, great samples, great beats, highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of Mo' Wax releases.

The instrumental tracks are easily a cut above what most other DJs are putting out, the only thing that keeps it from being a perfect 5 stars are the somewhat weak rapping talents of a few of the vocal contributors. However, apart from that, it's well worth owning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't have expected anything less from H.R.- Spintacular, August 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Presents Dust Static & Plastic (Audio CD)
Dust, Static, and Plastic encompasses not only the 'beats from the streets' attitude that hip hop was founded on, but also goes further into new territory by displaying and redefining the art of the DJ. Josh does not simply 'drop back beats' for his rhymers but in utilizing his eclectic musical background and unmistakable talent for mixing/breaking the beats, he is able to spotlight his lyrical partners while emphasizing the music itself. Hip-Hop often has become completely lyrical with tired, overused beats. Josh brings back the into focus the purpose of the DJ: To be a composer and create music that makes you bob your head and shake your fanny. Brian and Jerry have been bringing it real since the days of Eloquent Peasants and along with the other talent featured, from the freestyle to masterminded poetics still got it going on. We will be looking for more from H.R. and Butter Beat. Definetly a five star production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hip Hop is a way of life..., July 31, 1999

This review is from: Presents Dust Static & Plastic (Audio CD)
I had to send this album to my family and friends. Josh Virgin is a master of blending obscure and creative sounds/samples with the deepest and baddest breakbeats around. A full-bodied hip hop listening experience. I can't wait for more.
