5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff
This is a great album, jazz done by some not traditionally associated with jazz (Pete Seeger, Merle Haggard, and Steve Earle for example) and they sang and played with style. However, I really don't believe Louis Armstrong traveled to New Orleans during the last year. Hey, is that Elvis I see over there? :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Vinyl LPs from Amazon were warped and unplayable twice!
I ordered this item on Amazon and it arrived with both LPs warped and unplayable. The replacements from Amazon, while the arrived quickly, were also warped. Not sure who is to blame for this but I have ordered from another seller. The music looks like it will be good once I can hear it.

Can't say enough about the Preservation Hall Jazz band. If you like the spirit and upbeat sounds of New Orleans jazz, then you'll love this album and everything else that they do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preservation on song, April 4, 2010

This review is from: Preservation: An Album To Benefit Preservation Hall & The Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program (vinyl) (Vinyl)
I caught this band live when they were touring the UK in 2007, and much of their craft and energy is preserved (sorry!) on this recording. The range of vocal talent they have harnessed is a pleasant surprise and the material a fine reworking of timeless songs; egos don't get in the way of the musical message.
The heavy vinyl pressing allows the music to breathe, the only pity being a rather warped second disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Album to Benefit Preservation Hall, February 21, 2010

Through the years 'The Preservation Hall Jazz Band' has recorded some very good New Orleans jazz music. This album (to benefit Preservation Hall and the Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program) is excellent. They brought in many fine musicians to record songs with them. Some of the musicians include: Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco, Pete Seeger, Brandi Carlile, Richie Havens, Merle Haggard, Dr. John, Steve Earle, and many others. If you like New Orleans jazz music, you will love this album.

One of them lived in New Orleans while attending college. He was befriended by some of the local musicians and said it brought back many good memories of people and the music.
