This book contains a great deal of information for those who are interested in surveying and documenting old or historic cemeteries. It also gives good tips for cleaning or reading weathered stones and also some information on how to proceed onto the grounds if it is on private property. It's not a large book but would be good to have on the shelf for anyone with that kind of interest!

This book provides an excellent overview to understand a potential historic site to be preserved. The author takes you through the process to do it correctly. I was most impressed by a section about preserving plants. Most people don't think about saving the plants, when in fact, saving the plants may be just as historically important as saving the headstones.

Comprehensive guidelines for every community and saving old cemeteries. I am using it to save a local slave cemetery that has been long neglected.

This booklet offered little more than information and ideas that can be found at even the most basic of internet web sites. Most concepts are mentioned with little follow up or further discussion. Only one concept was introduced (with no follow up or expansion) that made me think the really low price was at least somewhat not wasted.
Not really worth buying.

EXCELLENT source of information on historic cemeteries. The part about using the ground covers of old -- and WHY -- was worth the price of the booklet, IMO and there was plenty of other nuggets of valuable info sprinkled throughout. If you're working with/at a historical cemetery, this should be required reading before you start. It saved us making a few mistakes at our historical cemetery and I refer to it often. In fact, I carry it around so much I call it my Bible. The photo of the Victorian pathways in cemeteries was quite a revelation, too. We know our cemetery had them but we never knew what they might have looked like.
