From the Introduction:
As we get further away from the time when an event occurred, the details of that event start to blur. Eventually, the event becomes a distant memory, the recollection of which is flawed. Those past experiences might be significant for our children, grandchildren, and others.
Over the years, many people have attempted to capture family histories using various media. Family Bibles often served as repositories of important family events. Some families have used tape recorders while, more recently, others have pointed their camcorders at loved ones and hoped to save family stories.
Most of these attempts have failed for a variety of reasons. The most common problem is that good intentions are not sufficient to overcome a lack of experience and technique in recording personal histories.
This guide was written for the express purpose of helping you record your family histories. Pick and choose from the suggestions presented here.
Remember that there will be countless generations of your descendants who will be grateful that you took the time to produce a quality recording of your family's history. Do not shortchange the future by waiting until tomorrow to record what should be documented today.
