Best of the Cleveland Biographies,

This review is from: To the Loss of the Presidency (Grover Cleveland a Study in Courage, Vol. 1) (Hardcover)
Nevin has written the gold standard for Cleveland biographies. Although a bit biased toward Cleveland, Nevin does an good job giving the background of Cleveland and showing how he went from being Buffalo Mayor to President in a short period of time. Cleveland was never the most imaginative President, but this book tells how his integrity helped him reform civil service and tackle corruption--lessons that are useful even today.

insightful book about cleveland, how he shown political courage against his own party about the silver issue.but no political backbone about civil service reform, at first he did but he succumb to the politcial bosses and his party on that issue. his failure regarding the tariff issue and race relations. cleveland also reflect how tactless and insensitive regarding the civil war verterans, not attending the gettysburg reunion and sent letter regarding albert johnson,a former confederate general, that every american should take pride of his courage.the writer show no bias one way or other, he gave a honest appraisal of mr cleveland

Grover Cleveland,

This review is from: To the Loss of the Presidency (Grover Cleveland a Study in Courage, Vol. 1) (Hardcover)
Cleveland was known for his honesty and admitted to fathering a child out of wedlock. At 49, he married 21-year-old Frances. He was the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms and the only one whose wedding took place in the White House. Cleveland and his young wife stayed together until his death. The Baby Ruth candy bar was named after their daughter, not Babe Ruth.
