This review is from: Presidents Mistres (Hardcover)
Patrick Anderson's debut novel "The President's Mistress" starts with the murder of a woman in Georgetown. The police initially think burglery, but her former lover who had worked on the President's campaign knows differently: she was killed to shut her up. The hero tries to solve the murder while staying ahead of the police, who begin to suspect him as the killer, and ruthless men in power who want to protect one of their own. The novel loses a bit of credibility as one of the baddies is a cliched ultra-right wing psycho who set himself up as one of the President's go-to guys and he wants to be head of the CIA. The main question of the novel is was the President complicent in the murder? Climax is OK, but ending was a bit forced. Not bad for a debut, but needed more.
